Hey regular Lucid Dreamers, what is a Good Routine??

Hey guys I am very new (hours in fact) to this site and by looking at a few of the threads I've been interested in, talk of a "good LD routine" has been a common theme. I am very interested in lucid dreaming on a regular basis and have been recording my dreams for about 3 weeks now. I know this goal will not happen overnight, but I would like to start the necessary habits as soon as possible, and am willing to work hard.
So, I was wondering if some of the more advanced lucid dreamers could give me examples of their routine when they are "on the ball". everybody's input is hugely appreciated, thanks guys! excited about becoming a part of this community.

Hey there welcome to lucid dreaming....when you have your first one you will be addicted lol....im not an advanced lucid dreamer but i know quiet alot about different techniques and stuff and iv had roughly about 50 lucid dreams since i started.
Something new im trying is....i looked through my dream journal and tried to notice a pattern or anything that occurs alot in my dreams....and that is family.....in nearly every dream i have im with a family member of girlfriend....so i have decided to question if im awake or asleep everytime i see my.family of girlfriend and after a month or 2 of doing this i should be questioning this in my dreams which would mean tons more lucids than usual =)
You will have lots of fun practising lucid dreaming and it does take alot of effort but the results are definatly worth it =)

Welcome first, just get enough sleep, very important. Without sleep, no dream. And you should have some free time during the day that can make you relax or meditate. Too much work and thinking can't make you focus on dreaming, forgetting how to relax and reflect back on yourself. Second, don't be too attached on this. Be patient. I emphasize this because I saw many others including myself struggling harder to LD which makes it un-reachable, whereas it's very easy. Any form of addiction isn't good anyway. There's no reason to work hard because it's super easy, as long as you don't give up, you will achieve it.

I would personally recommend 3 things for the necessary habits: pay attention to your thoughts and all senses you're experiencing. Feel what your eyes are seeing, ears are hearing, skin is touching, etc. This will increase vividness of your dream.
Learn how to fall asleep first. One good technique is putting your focus on the back of your head. If you get into WILDing, but don't know how to fall asleep, you will spend lots of nights staying awake and not having good sleep at all.
And learn how to be calm all the time. You can get excited and be relaxed at the same time! You'll have to experience it first... Being calm both mentally and physically will help you a lot how to stabilize in the dream. It's crucial for all things.

This is an advice I wanna give you, that always remember, lucidity is state of consciousness, it doesn't always occur because of a technique. State of unity consciousness easily makes you aware of all things, a polarized mind won't perceive dream as illusion. It can, but only temporarily. Hope this helps you

I cannot stress enough how important a healthy, regular sleep schedule is. Get your full 8 hours (maybe more if you're doing a lot of WBTB) and keep falling asleep at the same time. A regular schedule means regular dreams and regular lucids.

Also, don't be afraid to mix and match techniques. If you like MILD a lot but want to try some sort of WILD, say a FILD, you don't have to stop doing MILDs. Just keep doing your mantra while you fall asleep initially and then do a WBTB or perform your FILD when you wake up. In addition, you can add DEILD to all of this and try to extend any dreams/lucid dreams you end up getting from these techniques. This is a very similar to my own routine (check my sig for a link to a detailed guide).

You also just want to try and be more aware throughout your daily life. Windhover touched on this in his post, and it helps a lot with lucid dreaming. Maintaining awareness during your day will carry over into your dreams, leading to more lucidity. You don't really have to be devoting all of your time/attention to it, but the occasional break during the day to meditate or focus on your surroundings can help a lot. Awareness can also help improve your daily life as a whole.

As a final little tip, spend more time on the forums. As silly as it sounds, spending time focusing/reading about lucid dreams can help with attaining lucidity. Your dreams take large inspiration from your daily life, so if your daily life consists of learning about lucid dreaming, your dreams will naturally include more lucidity. I've noticed this myself quite a bit (I tend to disappear from the forums for indeterminate amounts of time). You don't necessarily have to post anything, but there's constantly new threads being made about all sorts of topics and it can be really interesting and informative. Of course, now I sound like an advertisement for DV .
