The next time i see an elephant i will know im dreaming

Thoughts?? Strange thing is that i never see elephants in my dreams but if i constantly say this to myself everynight for a month i should then hopefully dream of an elephant which would get me lucid.
Im bored of these *i will realise im dreaming* type mantras as they dont seem to help me even if i really think about the words as some of my dreams are that real ofcourse that i dont question them....but if i see an elephant which i never do then due to my constant nighly affirmation i should become.lucid.....thoughts or oppinions? Thankyou =)

To me it seems more fun this way as the goal isnt to just become lucid but to also see the elephant as that will tick the mantra box to conclude that it works....

Well, it's worth a try because you never know if something like that would work. It could be a good experiment and there's nothing to lose. Plus, if you think it's fun, it's more likely to be successful.
However, I would assume that if the other mantras don't work because the dream seems too real, then this mantra will have the same problem. If you eventually do dream of an elephant you might be like, "Wow an elephant! What a coincidence, too bad it's not a dream". Because of that, it seems like the mantra would take more time without as many opportunities for success. I think the real key is to stop looking at things and taking them at face value; whether it's elephants, a dream sign, or monotonous daily tasks.

When it comes to trying to dream about something, I think imagining that something is happening is more effective than simply saying it will later on. You're more engaged with the subject this way.

Try to imagine elephants in some way that would allow you fall asleep while remaining engaged with the visualization. This visualization itself doesn't have to be that vivid, it's just something that allows you to engage in the subject you want to dream about.

Thats a good point so maybe elephants flying would be worth thinking of as i could imagin them like cabs for people to ride.
Are you saying that certain words such as *next time* is not as good? Iv noticed in other forums that people say to avoid using certain words during mantras such as *will*.
      Thanx for the reply =)

You have a very good point.....the one thing i know is that even tho my dreams are vivid they are also quiet basic...meaning ill be shopping with my family or fighting with friends......so hopefully something very different should trigger me...lets hope lol thanx for the reply =₩

Ideally you want your mantra to refer to the present rather than the future. When your mind is on the future, you're disregarding the present. For example, if you see an elephant in a dream and think, "next time I see elephants I'll realize I'm dreaming" you won't become lucid until you think, "I'm seeing an elephant. I'm dreaming."

I had to laugh seeing the title of your post. One of my spontaneous LDs was caused by seeing elephants in a dream. They were a train of three, the one behind holding the tail of the one in front. What made me LD was that they were in a city and crossing a road. The front one looked at me than backed up, which looked really funny and odd. I became lucid because they sort of bumped into each other as the front one reversed and it looked so absurd!

I do agree that just seeing an elephant might be enough to trigger an LD, but an elephant in a strange setting doing something silly is even more likely to.
