      Hello there.
Ive been keeping a dream journal for about a year and a half, but only recently started
making entries for every dream. It seems my recall has no pattern. its usually 4-8 days between dreams,
usually just snippets, although that time I ate some dark chocolate during WBTB had some DRAMATIC
results lol. I tried again but didn't get anymore good results with chocolate.

EVERY morning immediatly after I wake up I think about recalling dreams.
I even had a dream which I was recalling a dream!

Any ideas how to improve my recall frequency and or length?

Honestly I'd like to help you, and I'd like to know myself too. I posted a question about what makes you recall in another topic. To know that, I can then answer your question.

      Sorry I don't know...

as simple as relaxing before bed, the lucid part comes with experience it seems, and lots and lots of dream recalls.

Yer mines a bit dodgy... but I found when I stoped worrying as much about it... I could rember more....

well hopefully mine will get better soon.
i recalled 3 little dreams last night, and autosuggestion worked last night.

      so morale is high.

except for my stupid WILD predicament, as stated in another post

      thanks

Yeah I've been carefully watching for factors that made me remember dreams when I did. I try to look for similarities in ways of going to sleep, intake of B-complex&Melatonin, wways of awakening.
And I guess it's really got everything to do with the way you awaken.

I remember dreams where I would slowly re-enter the waking state as I awoke with the Dream still very fresh in Mind. Other days, when I forgot my dreams, I did NOT wake up smoothly and must have gotten interupted in the process: possibly by my mom making noise downstairs waking me from a dream very abrupt.

I know I need to slowly slip out of sleep, very gradually, cuz usually every morning right before I awake my dream starts to fade. When it starts fading I always become lucid knowing it's a Dream and that it's fading. However this will only last a couple of seconds, maximally 1 minute, before I really wake up.

It all depends if in that stage there's no noise or cats that could disturb me and no other sensory external distractions. If I wake up under these peacefull conditions I always use my short lasting low lucidity to stick with it and remember the Dream as it is fading away.

Sometimes something like sound disturbs me and the dream fades away REALLY quickly waking me up with only the feelings and slight visions from the dream that are too short to understand or make sense of.In that case, which is most of the time, I wake up ALMOST remembering my Dreams, but JUST not, like they're JUST out of reach (You'll all know that feeling)

I guess in this phase it is crucial to wake up very gradually and smoothly, without any external distractions. Anyone else have any idea as to how to wake up this way without the Dream fading QUICKLY?

As soon as you wake up, don't move and keep your eyes closed. Remain in the exact position you were before. Concentrate on what you were just thinking about. Try to remember keywords or phrases so when you've remembered everything you possibly can, you can quickly grab your journal and scribble it down. Include any feelings or thoughts you have about it.

lol WILDing with a cat nearby is disasterous.

yup usually if I can just remember one thing, when I start writing,
      more comes back.

any type of autosuggestion work for dream recall?

That has never been a problem for me, i can remember a long page dream even if someone wake me up .

i suggest you to relax when you go to bed, i mean stay relaxed about two or three minutes (maybe seeing a simple relaxation tutorial would help), its important to relax body and mind and concentrate in that you´re going to remember your dream. i do that every night..

well i had my first lucid about a week and a few days ago. after that, i hadn't had a single dream since. last night was different, for the first time i got a good nights rest (after a long time&#33 and for the first time ever, i recalled more than one dream.

if you don't get much sleep at night, i would say thats your problem. the next chance you get sleep in, until like 12. thats what i did

also, i would suggest writing everything and anything you can remember from your dreams. that should help you out

People find that they recall more from the intention and belief that it will happen. Autosuggestion works for me, if it helps: "I will recall all my dreams with detail and ease." I repeat that a few times, along with autosuggestion for lucidity (that hasn't worked yet only the recall one).

Just relax, take it with an easy going attitude and think about your current mood and feeling.

Things that seem to help for me:

Writing down every single dream i start to remember, when i first remember it.
Getting lots of sleep, either going to be early, or getting up late seem to help.
Contrary to most people, when I start going about my normal morning routine, my dream will just HIT me when i'm washing my face/having breakfast etc. (try not moving at all and trying to recall, and try this, maybe you're like me =) )

yah, i definitely have dream flashbacks, but now that i do these dream recalls as soon as I wake up I can recall more than 1-2 dreams, when those dream flashbacks come its usually just the stronger/longest one that comes back.

I get that all the time! I'll be trying to remember what I dreamt as if it was
locked in my memory, and then suddenly, one thought will trigger another and instantly
      I remember me dream!

      Its pretty weird..
