In the past month I have taken three naps.. Each time I had a lucid dream. Mind you the one that I had today I didn't have as much control as I normally do, I couldn't even fly out the window. Then I woke up soon after that because my mom was poking at me. Damn her.

Naps are great for that - my nap LDs tend to be short, but hey, I'm still lucid so I guess that's all the matters. But it's the opposite for me - I feel like I'm more aware during naps so my control seems somewhat better than night LDs.

i dont nap alot.. when i do, i usually become so confused, i forget what day it is.. where i am.. who i am.. etc.

Love slips through my grasp once again

Its funny how wrong you can be about a person.
you think they love you, and it turns out to be a lie.
you think you know them, and they turn out to be the exact opposite

My first lucid dream after joining this forum was during a nap.
Haven't had an LD since then.
      Haven't had a nap either.

But that's because I'm in school, and, can't really take them except on weekends [yay! one's coming up!]
And yeah, I'm not too fond of them, because the same thing happens to me as it does to Draven.
I get so disoriented for an hour or so afterwards..

I only nap for about fifteen minutes and don't try to LD. When I need a nap it's out of being too exhausted, but when a LD starts I let myself go, forgetting the regular fifteen minute nap that eneergizes me for hours. They tend to be shorter though and I'm more likely to have false awakenings during a nap than sleep.

Naps are good because they tend to capture one REM period. Upon awakening each time, it is extremely easy to remember. Also I'm thinking because you exit the real world to REM so quickly lucidity is more easily obtained.

      Just my thoughts.

Yep! Naps yield my highest percentage of LDs.

How is it my body knows the difference between a nap and regular sleep though? Why do I have to sleep four or five hours at night before having a good shot at LD, but I can get into one right away in the middle of the afternoon?

yeah, definitely. an hour nap, for me - sometimes seems longer (and more effective) than a 6 hr sleep. usually because I lucid dream during the short naps..........

Ok, it's kinda strange seeing what other people say about it, but for me it seems that naps never work. I rarely have any recall from them, and have never had an LD from one that I know of. I'm not sure why this is, maybe I don't nap long enough or just shifting in and out of light sleep.

I use to nap alot but i've stopped now because every time i do i go into Sleep Paralysis (sometimes when i'm not even trying to WILD ) It scares me because i dont want to OBE from it! I find i do better at night, after around 3-4 hours of sleep.

Wow never thought naps where that good for LDing because I thought you wouldn't enter into REM sleep for a while but maybe thats different with naps in the day. (I no it's possible to enter REM sleep straight away but usually you have non-REM lasting 90 to 120 minutes) I'll give them a shot if I can get myself tired enough.

I bet if you know your about to nap you could probably focus really hard on going from reality to lucidity by just concentrating on it hard enough.... saying something to yourself or picturing some imagery to start in...

I usually don't even remember my dreams when I nap, let alone go lucid.

my best lucid times come from naps, but like everybody else before said, they are shorter lucids than at night. I found the best time for me is a few hours after I wake up in the morning. I go to a military academy so I am usually tired so I always nap in between classes, even in the morning. Those are the times I become lucid the most.

I never seem to enter REM when taking a nap in the afternoon, because I can't even remember having a single dream during naps. I don't have an alarm clock either. I just wake up half an hour - hour later after starting the nap. I know I've fallen asleep, but I can't recall having dreamed. It's easy for me to fall asleep during the afternoon (even if I already had enough sleep that day&#33, but I just can't remember a dream. This is weird, since I can remember up to 5 dreams each night upon awakening.
Maybe it helps if I say that I feel wasted after a nap?

Does anybody know why? Or is anybody able to help?
      Sure, why not?

After reading this post I decided to take a nap. Near the end of my two hour nap I had a long fairly vivid dream (I didn't realize I was dreaming). I'm wondering if REM kicks in only near the end of a nap, or the beginning too, any thoughts? (Also for a nap, what would be a good induction technique?).

      Hi,

I have narcolepsy and fall straight into REM sleep from walking, WILDING as you call it, this can be when sitting down (usually in a boring lecture at university&#33, This is often a vivid lucid dream in which I have much control and can go about having fun - flying around, interacting with other people etc, and then decide when to wakeup again to see if I have missed anything important!,

I once did this through an entire 2 hour lecture, waking up occassionally, then deciding that the dream was more important and could renter the dream where I left off providing I chose to do so within a minute or two,

Narcoleptics can often get more rest than they need by sleeping too much, thus always have had all the NREM sleep they need!. ITs just like the WBTB technique thats talked about but you can do it any time you feel tired, which is genarally when sitting down.

I do the same when I have a lie in, often being woken up by a friend, I tell them Im in a really lucid dream, to piss off, and then renter the dream!

I have for instance a 30min dream and feel I am losing my lucidity so wake up, write down anything interesting, then rejoin the dream!, have a 20min dream, wake up, write down, carry on into a third dream, and so on until about 5-6 dreams in total by which time they dont last long and I say goodbye and get up for work!

I think trying to get lucid helps me nap. I nap when I'm not sleeping at night and since it's daylight I have to really try. I usually only nap for 15 minutes but if I am sick and/or feel I've been lacking sleep, I'll force it so I can sleep longer.
