      WILDing method, need testers!

I want some people to test a version of WILDs: OASIWILD! I'm busy with Clarity's technique so try this out. It's a wild induced this way:

      Relax.
Imagine your hand in front of you, holding an object: Lets say an orange.
See an unfocused backround behind it.
Let the hand defocus and the back round focus.
      Examine the backround.
      Repeat!

This worked for me once, I want to see if others can perfect it. It has to become sort of mindless by the time you are ready to start dreaming. If the images are vivid it helps you have clear dreams, too.

      Please post how it worked!

      THanks a lot!

Also doubtful, might have to get into a very relaxed state via breathing first and then begin.

I'll give it a try tonight though

I'll test it too, and I'm quite optimistic about it. It could work very well for me, since looking at my hands is my favourite RC.

I'll give it a try, but I'm no good with WILDs. What does that stand for, though?

It stands for object and scene induced wake induced lucid dream! I'll give it a shorter name as soon as I think of one. An important part in this excercize it the timing of switching scenes so that you don't get bored and let your mind drift. I tried it last night to slow, fell asleep, but I believe that if I give is a set number of breaths it will work continuosly. I have to find the number first, though. I'll work on it tomorrow night. Still needs fine tuning, but like I said, it really helps with vividness.
Thank you, weelilhazel! WILDs are delicate things, they are hard, I have had two that have worked and over twenty that have not! But I am no good at DILDs, so WILDs are my only hope!
And thanks to everybody who will test it out!

Hmmmm, mix of VILD and WILD, sounds interesting to me. I'd try, but my visualisation is shit.

Maybe sometime though, sounds like a pretty cool idea, could you expand on the workings of it?

I'll give it a shot too. I think what I'll do is focus/defocus with each breath. I'll report back

First the good news. Every day I do a BWE session with LD messages in them. I use the sessions as a training ground for maintaining concentration during HI. Most of the time, I fall into whatever the HI is showing me and I just fall asleep. Using the method you describe I was able to maintain my concentration throughout the entire session. Now the bad news. In order to change focus from an object in the fore of your vision to one in the background, it's only natural, for me anyway, to have to look at the fore vs background or vice versa. That means a movement of the eye, something I've been led to believe is counterproductive to WILD. I wonder if side by side images alternating in and out of focus would work the same? I'll let you know when I try it during WBTB tonight.

Hmm... But what if you forget the purpose of the exercise? What if you become so involved with the images that all hopes of lucidity escapes you? That's why I prefer "1-I'm dreaming, 2-I'm dreaming..." to visualization techniques.

Unless you could get it to work quickly. Of course, WILDs never work quickly for me!

I'll try that! Visuals usually work better for me than the 1-I'm dreaming bit.

As promised, I tested your object in hand technique. Here's my report:

It was about 3 AM. I laid down and waited for my mind to wander, and after a few minutes, I realized that I had nothing interesting to think of, so I started to concentrate on my breathing and relaxing stuff.

Once relaxed enough, I tried to imagine my hand holding an object, but I couldn't find an appropriate one. My hand stayed empty, but it started to become more detailed and realistic. I could see "RC" written on its back (because I wrote that before going to bed).

(@ Sir Mark: I think you shouldn't try to change focus with your physical eyes, just add/remove detail with your mind. If you find yourself forcing your eyes, you're probably not relaxed enough; you shouldn't even feel your eyes. However, your idea about alternating images with different focus seems to be very close to what I did with the spinning. Indeed, it's much easier to think about steady images than to create an "animation" in your head)

I tried focusing on the background, but all I could do was to unfocus my hand. I couldn't make any other shapes appear behind it. Suddenly, I thought that it would be much easier to spin, so I did (I don't spin very often).

Each time I completed a 360º loop, I found that the background was clearer. So I kept spinning until the background was clear enough for a dream scene. Then I began to fly around looking for something interesting to do.

I don't remember that LD at all, but it didn't last long. I think I just did the usual flying and phasing through walls. When it faded, I used the technique again and had a longer LD about elephants and India. Unfortunately, my memories of those two LDs were overwritten by a non-lucid dream I had in the morning. ):

Anyway, it worked for me! Even if I couldn't follow it to the letter, it helped. Good job!

      Greetings,
I tried the aforementioned method last night and was unable to acheive an LD. However, that's more about me than it is about the system. Orvus, thank you for your feedback, it was helpful. Once I "break the seal" and have an LD I'm sure experimenting with various methods will produce better results. In order to maintain a visual purpose to the technique, however, I imagined holding a crystal ball inside of which were the words "I'm dreaming". Whenever I have the opportunity to attempt a WILD, this is the method i'm going to try. Visualization seems to be my strongest sense and allows me to focus the best.

Good that it worked for you, Orvus! Can't wait to see other replies. I'm still sort of tweaking this method. I think five breaths each on the hand and the scenery works well. I haven't had a serious try in a while! I'm too tired lately. Orvus, what do you mean when you say that you spun?
Thanks to all of you for checking this out! This has become a hot thread! Yay!

I let my dream body spin. I feels like being on a giant hamster wheel, spinning very fast around its axis. It also feels like falling, but it would be "falling in circles". Sometimes it happens by itself, but I've been able to do it at will recently.

Sometimes, spinning can be used to maintain lucidity while you're losing it, or generate a new dream scene (because it makes you unable to focus on anything focus until you stop spinning). The latter is what happened to me.
