I'm willing to bet that there was at least one discrepency between that dream and reality. And I can pick one out from what you've written already, too.
Last night i had a dream. I was at school...
You were at school, but how did you get there? Were you suddenly there, or did you go through the entire daily routine (get up, turn off the alarm, get dressed, catch bus, etc.) within the dream? No matter your response to this question, a reality check should have been order:
If you had started the dream at school, you should reality check by thinking "How did I get here? What came before this?" If you can't remember traveling to school, or eating breakfast, or waking up, chances are you are dreaming and this should be followed by a reality check*. Following a chain of memories is a reality check in itself, of course.
If you started the dream with a false awakening, going through the day until you reached school, then you should have reality checked* when you first "woke up" in the dream. You should always reality check when you wake up.
*When I mean "reality check," in your situation I suggest something a little more concrete than the average text-check. Try something kinesthetic (as opposed to the visual cues you described), such as pinching your nose to see if you can still breathe through it, or try poking your index finger through your palm, or bending a finger backwards.
You claim that dream was too logical. I claim all you need is to be one logical step ahead!
Good luck!
