      First DEILD -- Very odd.

[I woke up, but didn't move. I heard about doing a DEILD, so I attempted it. I kept my eyes closed, didn't move a muscle, and began to imagine my last dream scene..but at the same time, I was imagining my room and how my bed was put together: first the posts, then the quilt, then the poster above my bed. At that time, I started feeling vibrations (first time this has happened). While they were happening, I sat up and stopped. I opened my eyes and then did the reality check where I put my right finger through the palm of my left hand, and it went through.]

Definitely an odd feeling to think you're completely awake but you know your in a dream..It's the most vivid dream I've had yet..and my first DEILD as well. The thing is..I read about Astral Projection the night before this dream so subconsciously, I thought that I attempted a projection. I thought all the rules of projection applied, but when I woke up I realized that it was just a lucid dream. [I've never had an AP]. I used the passive method used in the dream control tutorial, and it worked. But because I thought it was an AP, I didn't think I could control things without having a consequence. For some reason, because I read about evil spirits and what not in the AP realm, and even though I don't believe in it, I still thought i was in AP-land. Anyways, has that ever happened to you? Is this normal? How can I begin to distinguish the differences subconsciously so that I don't mix them up?

      Read my lips:

      Er, text:

An astral projection is a dream. Astral projection is dreaming. You are in fact dreaming, when you "astrally project."

Some say you can be lucid during an "astral projection." I say you were lucid in the sense that you know what you are experiencing is not reality, and can be controlled. You are not lucid, however, in the sense that you don't recognize the state as a dream, (which it is), and that you believe you must follow a set of rules ("You can't control _____." or "If you try to _________, the demons will appear.").

Easiest remedy would be to discard your credibility for astral projection. You must firmly remind yourself that you are in a dream, your dream, and that you can do whatever you want.

Technically, if you are in a dream, but you think you are astral projecting, you are not lucid dreaming, because you think you are doing something besides lucid dreaming, since you think you're not just dreaming.

Sounds like you started out lucid, then thought that you were doing something different and actually ended up losing your lucidity by thinking you were doing something beyond lucid dreaming

Depending on what you believe of AP and dreaming will effect how you can tell them apart. Because of the lack of empirical evidence, I personally believe that APers are just people who are aware in their dreams, but not aware they are dreaming, and so are able to retain consciousness while entering a dream state but believe themselves to be in another realm of existence instead of just a dream. So if it were me with this problem, trying to keep them distinct, I would just tell myself that I was lucid dreaming and not even wonder if it was anything else, since I already knew it was a dream.

Which I guess doesn't help if you DO believe in AP, sorry So, if you'd like me to move this to Beyond Dreaming, let me know and you will have responses from people who aren't as skeptical!

I do believe I was lucid, but I just think that because what I had read about AP, I just believed that in the dream. I remember choosing to do the things that I did in the dream (weighing pros and cons to what I should do), but I now see that I should distinct the dream as just only a dream and nothing else. I haven't experienced an AP to what the books seem to say it's like (different planes, other 'spirits', etc), so I know it was just a dream. Anyways, it was just a odd experience for me -- thanks for your inputs!

Look, forget all this astral projection nonsence! You had a lucid dream that began from you bedroom. The reason for this is that when you were transitioning to the dream your mind had not spooled up a dream scene so used you bedroom as the default setting

When you felt the vibrations you did the correct thing in sitting up

It was a lucid dream, at that point you could have got out of your bed, jumped through the window and fought dragons over mars

Astral projection is a myth like ghosts and ufo abductions

In a world where everyone has a HD recording device in their pockets these still is no evidence of a ghost / ufo / astral projection

I put this to the test once. I found myself lucid on the moon. I then flew down to earth and into my bedroom and beside my bed. I then imagines a silver cord attaching me to my body in bed. Now i id this to prove that astral projecting is just a normal lucid dream

Next time, sit up, go outside and fly!
