      Urge to swallow in SP

Today i set my alarm to wake me up at 4:30AM (i went to sleep past 11:00PM) and then i woke up i think around 5 minutes before the alarm was to go off, i went to the bathroom to go to the toilet and i went back to bed, i waited around half an hour and then i attempted to enter sleep paralysis.

At first it did not work, but a hour or so later it did, my limbs felt heavy and i could hear a loud buzzing noise, but i had this really bad urge to swallow that i tried to resist but i gave in and when i swallowed i broke out of sleep paralysis.

I know other people have the same problem but i would like to know how can i resist the urge to swallow, because it is starting to make me angry.

This is a very common problem when WILDing, yeah.

Here's my advice. When you attempt a WILD, make sure you use a very fluffy pillow, perhaps two pillows, so the your head is tilted up a little (you can lay on your back or your side for this). It will make it easier for you to drain excess saliva without swallowing, and hopefully you won't have the urge to swallow as much.

On top of that, the best thing you can do is practice focusing on something that is not your physical body or your physical senses. If and when any hypnogagic hallucinations kick in, or even just imaginary visuals or sounds, try to focus on them and pretend they are "real." Play with them, direct and control them, or imagine yourself already within a dream, keeping yourself relaxed. Hopefully you will jump into SP or a WILD before you know it.

Ok, i will use two pillows instead of one the next time i do a WILD.

But when you said about focusing on something that is not your physical body or physical senses, what should i focus on exactly?

Hahaha I had this problem too! The reason you need to swalllow is because you are drooling because you are thinking of something yummy or something sexy! The mouth doesn't make saliva for no reason

Just swallow. The less thought you give to it, the less any movement will impact you. You don't have to stay still to WILD.

Focus on the internal. Count your breaths, or just count, telling yourself that the next place you will be is in a dream (even if you mentally fall asleep during WILD, rehearsing lucid statements like these increase the chance of your next dream being a DILD).

Yes, just swallow. You do swallow in your sleep, after all. And since the only things you have to worry about while trying to get to SP are things that your sleeping body normally doesn't do, you don't have to worry about not swallowing.

I swallow a bunch while I'm trying to get to SP, and it never affects me.

Is there a set time for SP? I guess it would depend if you tried to get into it before sleep, or after a WBTB, but isn't there an average time that it takes to get into sleep paralysis, say 15 or 20 minutes, or does it just vary for everyone?

I just put my head to one side and let it spill out onto a cloth or just my pillow (it disappears in the morning xD). Gross, I know.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.
