Is this even possible? Has any one tried it ? If it works does this mean a form a suicide ? |

There is no actual separation occurring. You'll get "pulled back" regardless of what you're doing. No worries. |
You don't really leave your body during OBE. |
I think maybe you are talking about transcendence of the soul? |
It has already been said, but the majority of what is you is always safe in your body. You project awareness and it will immediatly return if you wake or something goes wrong. |
sivason i am not scared that i wont be able to get back in my body its the opposite what i mean is that what if i resist coming back and i try to stay out , is that even possible? |
I doubt it. At some point your body will get hungry enough or need to pee bad enough to pull you back. Remember that most of you is still in the body. |
When your outside of yourself, whether its brought on during sleep or you OBE while awake (usually happens when your in shock), physical response will always bring you back, like "remind" you to return. It may be the touch of another person, like someone already said, the need to pee - although I have to admit, my childhood OBE's probably were the main cause of repeat episodes of bed wetting. If you learn to avoid the physical response, your physical body won't die. There has to be a reason for it to die. OBE'ing is not one of them. I would encourage you to learn to listen to the needs of your body though. Learning to ignore them leads to chronic problems later in life. |

Seems to me that it's an empirical question: i.e., that it can only be answered by trying it out. Of course, anyone who tries to stay separated and fails is going to say it can't be done in their experience, and anyone who tries and succeeds won't be around to say one way or the other. So it's an empirical question the correct answer to which can only be guessed at. And that's what it seems to me that everyone is doing here: guessing. Guesses are better when they are informed by tried and tested theories. Maybe gab's got one--I like what she had to say best--but she doesn't seem too confident about it. Try it a hundred times a hundred different ways and then you can say with some confidence at least that it isn't easily done. Just be sure you're in a really nice and stable dreamscape when you try! |

Alternatively, OBE is really just a WILD with mysticism attached to it. Therefore, no matter what you do you'll still wake up from the dream. |
Indeed, we've yet to find signs that there's actually more than just brain processes to the event. Many people refer to substance dualism, astral projection, and many other concepts that are already lacking logic in themselves to explain the OBE, which makes no sense at all |
I think it is a hybrid of both ideas. The process is the same as a WILD. Your brain is being used as a virtual reality. However, I also believe that some mystical things can take place in a dream setting. The AP thing would be more like listening or looking. I mean that when we hear something, it is part of our reality and we have n a way interacted with the thing; we have not, however, left our body. AP is basically (if we accept a mystical aspect) a type of preception. At no point do you leave your head, anymore than watching a movie has made you leave your body. However, in this model, you do interact with realities that have substance seperate from your internal world. You preceive the 'other' worlds from a weird type of LD state, and can interact with the worlds. |

have to disagree with the unbelievers here about "leaving your body". once you have your own experiences it's easy to disregard them but until then read some stories about NDE's and other OOBE's other than "astral projection". many people report leaving their bodies during times of medical stress, accidents etc. soldiers have reported being knocked outside their bodies by the forces of explosion during war. as far as intentionally staying out though this is something that is very similar to a lucid dream experience. it's not easy to do in either situation and takes a ton of practice. the most accepted answer and the one i agree with is that no, it's not possible during an astral projection at least to stay out for good. however if someone has done this they wouldn't be able to report it now would they? |
Why don't you try it and find out? Pioneer a little bit! where is your sense of adventure? |
Gogodoll, Eventually, you wake up anyway. |
