The fact that a certain entity in a dream is recurring (on some level) and you "feel" that it is your DreamGuide it doesn't mean it is.
Technically this whole Dreamguide thing isn't 100% plausible, because you're still relying on your own mind to ''make it'' the dreamguide.
If I had to choose one particular character that would have to be my so called "DG", I can't.
I've had thousands of recurring characters with recurring personalities, and they all were aware of the situation I was in.
Though the most "respected one" by me would have to be "The Elder" (The Elder doesn't have a name =p)
The Elder lives on a small island with a small wooden shack (which is my ''house'' btw) and The Elder has a huge white tower on one edge of the island, with fortified walls around it and a small village and the such.
It is The Elder, who has taught me the skill to manipulate dream time,(He/She/It/Me/Whomever it is) which allowed me to use the ''technique'' to dream more time than I sleep, without skips.
The second to be a DreamGuide to me would be "The Sigil".
The Sigil, like The Elder, has no name, but unlike the elder, has no shape or form. He's a sigil (read: pretty huge drawing)
The Sigil appeared in a dream (I'll spare the details) in a cellar, and when approached, if The Sigil deems one worthy, The Sigil will vanish, showing a path into another realm, which almost looked like I went into a cyberspace version of reality, really weird.
I don't have Dream Guides that constantly talk to me & support me though.
I seek something? Visit The Elder
I seek something The Elder can't show me? I Visit The Sigil.
They are the exact Opposites of eachother:
The Elder, as a human, shows me knowledge, and the "knowledge based" side of the mind.
The Sigil, as a sigil, shows me spiritualism, and the emotional side of the mind.
You could say that The Elder would teach it's pupil how to control his environment and stabilize it, and that The Sigil would show the pupil how to appreciate the existence of that environment, and to enjoy it to it's fullest extent.
As The Sigil can bring upon man emotions that surpass even the most extreme emotions that anyone can imagine.
