      Musical ear syndrome

I'm not sure if this is the best place for this thread, but there have been a few times when I've been going to sleep and I can hear a radio from somewhere. I get out of bed and it goes away, but as soon as I lay back down I can hear it again. It freaked me out so much one night, that I went in to work to get some stuff done. I talked to one other guy who said he thought he heard sports announcers one night when there was no radio anywhere around. I looked this up on the net and saw it might be something called "musical ear syndrome" but the other people heard it at different times of day. I have only heard it at night. On a talk show (I can't remember which) some psychic said when people here these voices at night, it's the dead speaking to us, but I really don't believe that. I can't understand anything they are saying.

I've heard of people who have that happen after they get fillings in their teeth.

Even though this is the beyond dreaming section, I'll just add the usual... To me it looks like a normal hypnagogic sensation. When you relax you hear it, when you start doing something it goes away.

I wanna agree with bonsay unless you can tell us some more about it. imaginary sounds are apart of the hypnagogic stage, some hear more than others, just as some don't get HI.

I wouldn't be so concered unless the music starts playing loudly when youre up and moving! D=

Yeah. I think that daytime auditory hallucinations are common for schizophrenia.

Both of these are wrong. It was busted on mythbusters and yes, I do believe everything I see on that show.

I have a weird ability to memorize an entire song after only a few listens and it's not just the lyrics but it's every single guitar and every single drum beat and fill. It's every aspect of the song. When I near sleep, I hear random songs like I'm listening to them at that moment. It seems so real. I like it though. It's pretty awesome to have music playing in my head.

don't know the word in english
"absolute ear" is a thing that some musicians have, like a photographic memory for sounds and automatic detection of frequencies.

some lesser manifestations of this are this kind of ghost sounds
it can happen, for example, if you usually play a song with the other instruments (recorded or presents), and at some point play it alone, to "actually" hear the others playing in your ears.

it can be actually useful someway for a musician, i suppose...
but normally it's just "doh! strange" and stop.

      no worry

I'm not sure if this is related or not, but if listen to a song a few times, I can listen to it almost as good as the real thing (except I miss that buzzing I get in my ears. Ever since I started listening to subliminal lucid tapes my hearing has increased, for some odd reason, and normal talking sounded like shouting to me and stuff. but that's off-topic)

Perfect pitch, while not the word you are looking for, italianmonkey, is a useful gift among musicians. "Playing by ear" is another- if that is what you mean. (I do believe that is the right term). Where if you hear something (sometimes once, if you're really good at it), you can play it almost dot on without needing sheet music.

Thanks for the input. I don't think I ever really hear any song I recognize or even one I can really hear any lyrics to. It just sounds like a radio in the distance and I think it has something to do with running a fan at night. I think my mind turns the noise into a radio sound.

Like Bonsay said, this sounds like hypnagogia.
Try this: next time you hear it, don't be alarmed or get up, but instead relax and don't move, and there is a chance that in a very short time you will enter a lucid dream.

I notice that whenever I hear music when I am trying to sleep a little while later I usually have a accidental WILD. But that would be pretty tight if you could pick up radio frequencies with your fillings hahaha.

I can relate to that. Sometimes last thing at night I have the drier turned on, and the sound that reflects back from the wall (ie not directly from the drier) sounds like a sort of buzzing like a mosquito which starts me freaking out

I have often heard a distant music. Especially when I am really tired. One time I did not sleep for a few days due to an insomnia problem and I heard the music loud and clear. It was awesome. I like to believe that it is the music of the earth.

One time I was falling asleep and electronica started playing in my head. I wonder if I can get it again - it was nice.

Absolute pitch or perfect pitch is the ability to name a tone that you hear or to sing a tone that you are told to without using a reference.

Relative pitch is the ability to get to another note by using a reference pitch (if playing by ear for instance you know what note you are on and what the next note sounds like so you can play it). This usually is a result of playing alot on an instrument and "mastering it".

I have never had this phantom hearing of music although I usually listen to music in bed and sometimes fall asleep with it on. It is pretty weird when you wake up still listening to music. It only happens sometimes but it starts with you being completely out of it and completely confused about what is going on and slowly realizing what is going on.
