    1. Dream Bits: Mammoth-Eisenhower and Lanes, Airplanes fly Thru Buildings, Bonnie and Parachute Jump

      by , 09-16-2017 at 04:51 PM
08-31-2017 -- Let this sit for too long, and the ones for the last couple days, as well, so they will probably all come out as fragments, rather than detailed enough to get full entries for themselves. For today's dreams, I know there were bits with Cindy L., and something about delivery driving or mystery shopping. I know there was something with Joe L. and cell phones (probably being broken or dropped or something) and Ubering. And then the finishing bit ended up being in an Eisenhower Park-like setting with hints of Mammoth Cave. I was walking near a river above ground, and there were hints of some sort of miracle-like healing tunnel rumored to be in the area. It had been mentioned earlier, during a camp-out (perhaps with Joe as the scout master), and I was wondering where it was, and looking for it.

The 'cave' areas were looking quite man-made, and there was supposed to be one 'pipe-like' tunnel leading to the special healing area, but instead it looked like some large sort of sewer with dozens of pipes coming in. When I started asking around, some of the regulars made me aware that there were several levels of the cave, and the healing tunnel was on the lowest level. Unfortunately, it has been raining recently, and I can see at least one large stream of water pouring down a ramp to lower levels, and am being warned that there is at least a 50-50 chance that the lowest level is currently completely flooded, and that if it isn't, it soon could be. Interesting dream, that I wish I could remember in more detail.

      ---

08-30-2017 -- Or perhaps one day earlier. Who can say. Odd dream where I am riding a bus with mom, and talking to the bus driver. For a couple of minutes I take a seat in the row right behind the driver, next to a black woman, just to chat. But when we finish our brief conversation, I excuse myself, apologize to the black woman for encroaching on her space, and move further back in the bus. Soon after that, I find myself standing near a building as a low-flying airplane flies right into it at fairly low speed. The building cuts an airplane-like shape into the wall, much like a cartoon.

The building turns into the Pentagon, and soon the airplane is backing out of the building again, unharmed. We're discussing these new planes that are still light enough to fly, but strong enough that they can pass through buildings without bringing harm to themselves. Meanwhile, I am right behind the airplane, filming it coming out of the building with my video camera, while having to throw myself to the side to avoid being run over by its tires as it backs out of the building.

Find myself sitting on what starts as the bus, but soon turns into the airplane, itself. We are in the process of being recruited to work for the US government in various capacities, and I decide I want to fly the big 747s that can fly through buildings. Olga Vukavitch is the one asking us what areas we would like to be working in, and I am trying to bring up the footage I just shot under the airplane to show her what I would like to be doing, but my laptop computer is not cooperating.

Soon things turn slightly odd, as a bunch of enemy soldiers are storming into the plane, trying to take over and catch prisoners, and their leader seems to be Kim Jung Il. I'm kind of sitting back out of the way with my laptop. I have no weapons, and I don't have any idea of what to do. Somebody else is somewhat insulting of me, for not being more involved to try and stop things, but I excuse myself by saying I haven't been given any orders, yet. Sad.

      ---

08-29-2017 -- Or around there. I'm somewhere, watching Bonnie going on some sort of slingshot-like ride that has her being hoisted up in chains to the top of a parachute jump-like tower (like at Knott's) where she is hoisted up by her arms, but also kind of runs along the tower like a slightly off version of rappelling. When she gets to the top, she seems to be kind of making some kind of meal (or perhaps potion) with ingredients that just kind of appear in the area, which could be quite valuable. She is assisted in this by a woman who works at the top of the tower, who most reminds me of 'The Architech' from the Player-Owned Ports content of Runescape.

Meanwhile, I am helping her bundle up her creation in a large storage container, in preparation of getting it back to the ground. Oddly, though I am at first at the top of the tower with her, I soon find myself running around at ground level again. I seem to spend a lot of time trying to use a small elevator which doubles as a waiting room at the odd cross between a doctor's office and Hewitt Associates. It seems that what everybody thinks is an elevator may only be made to look like one. Or not. It is very confusing. At least at one point, I end up a couple of stories further up in the building, where upper management hangs out in rich quarters, with spas, and a large swimming pool, lording it over the peons. There is also at least a little bit involving them trying to get me to come back to another position in the company, but by this time, I have had, and eventually gotten fired from so many positions so many times, that I really have no further interest in working for Hewitt, and I am amazed they keep trying to bring me back. Would have remembered more of this, the first day. Too bad I waited three or four days to write it down.
    2. Hewitt Warehouse Nightmare

      by , 07-20-2013 at 02:00 AM
07-19-2013 -- [I don't usually have nightmares, but I sure did, last night. And it was in multi-part. I would wake up, then drift back to sleep and be back in the same dream, with the same root causes, but each time things escalated.] Somehow I went back to work at Hewitt. There were some people there who liked me and wanted to give me another chance, even though I don't have a voice, and so couldn't speak on the phone. Instead they had me doing desk work, processing paperwork or something like that. Even so, some of the bigwigs don't like me.

In the dream I carried around a big backpack filled with books to read (including a large hardcover book with something like six sci-fi/fantasy novels in a series printed small in the big omnibus edition, several bags of balloons, my dream notebook, possibly my notebook computer. Fairly big pile of stuff.) The employer was Hewitt, and most of the people worked on phones in a call center environment, but the building is one I have often dreamed I worked security in, based on the TAMS building in Tustin, with staircases leading upstairs in two separate parts of the building leading to two separate upstairs areas that don't connect. And the huge warehouse area in the middle is far more JC Penney than what the TAMS building had.

Earlier parts are somewhat generic and sketchy, but one part is in an outdoor section, where people are working in cubicals outside, which makes no sense whatsoever. But for some reason I am allowed to set up a small tent to work in when there is room. Unfortunately, the place I usually set up this tent is now overflowing with tables and booths in a kind of job fair, and I am having to look around to try and figure out somewhere to set up my tent, just to come to accept that today there is nowhere I can set it up. This doesn't stop one guy from coming up to me and asking what the heck the tent is about, anyway, and who do I think I am, and why am I allowed this special treatment?

I have to go and sit at my usual cubical, working with the friendly, young, Hispanic guy that I really shared a cubical with at Hewitt, even if after six or seven years I can no longer remember his name. But with the job fair going on, they aren't bringing any of the usual paperwork around, so I don't really have anything to do, and am pretty much wasting the day sitting around and talking. Eventually one of the managers who doesn't like me comes over and gives me an assignment to take something to the other side of the building and deliver it there, and I have no problem in doing so, though I am not too happy with her attitude.

When I come back, I find the delivery was a ruse to get me out of the area so she could gather up my backpack/box, my computer, and anything and everything else of mine that might be in the cubical. This angers me. Not to going through my stuff, that is covered by company policy, and I can see the point of it, but the going behind my stuff behind my back, without even letting me know they are doing it. I realise that some of the bigwigs who don't like me have decided it is time to get rid of me, and are looking for a reason to fire me, but I don't care. To me, this behavior is beyond the pale, and I am ready to quit on the spot because of it, regardless of whether this is giving them just what they want. I ask around to find out just where she works, and I am told she is in the Obamacare department, and am given vague directions to it. Great ... Obamacare ... so this is probably something political. This just gets worse and worse.

As I am searching the building, looking for her desk or office, it seems more like Sears in the Buena Park Mall, in the layout and where the elevators are located. It takes a fair amount of looking, but I eventually find her. She's got all my stuff there and is going through it, and I start grabbing parts of it from her hands and my bag/box, and sorting through the stuff that is mine, and the stuff that belongs to the company, but that I have use of, seperating them out. At the same time I am lecturing her about the sneaky way she went about all this, telling her that if she had just told me they were going to search my stuff and had me present for it, I would not have had any complaints, but this is bullcrap.

Meanwhile, I am pulling bag after bag of balloons out of my bag, and dumping them on her desk. Though it makes no sense, for some reason they have been providing me with balloons, and I am giving them back. Then it turns into bags and bags of potato chips, snack cakes and chocolate that belong to the company, and that I never put there. I have to assume she was putting them in there to frame me, giving her a reason to fire me. I don't give her the chance, as I dump all the stuff on her desk, telling her I quit! She says I can't quit, because she is in the process of firing me, and I tell her too late, I already did. I find an extra check in my bag, and figure if it is my final check, I'll keep it, but it turns out to be somebody else's check, so I toss it on her desk, also.

Now that everything in my bag/back pack is really mine, I gather it all up, and am ready to leave the building, but she orders me to use the warehouse exit, rather than any of the other ways out of the building, and I don't know why. But as I am walking through the warehouse, some of the workers are calling out to me, distracting me, and driving fork lifts and things close to me, and in the process I set down my bag and dodge some stuff, and when I go back to where my bag was, it is gone. I now realize she wanted me to exit through the warehouse so she could have somebody in the warehouse steal my stuff. I don't get why, but I am not happy about it.

[It was about this point that I woke up and fell back asleep for the first time.] I storm back into the office and start trying to find her, but now she is hiding from me, and has made her cubical look almost identical to everybody elses. So I am looking and looking, but having no luck in finding it. I keep asking around for where her cubical is, and a few people try to point me in the right direction, but most are unhelpful, realising that I am on the outs with management, now. Eventually, when I reach the point that I am right next to it, a big worker who looks a lot like Sam on NCIS LA is very insulting, and points me at the cubical I am standing next to, and I am finally able to confront her again.

She denies everything, tries to claim I probably just mislaid my backpack, or maybe didn't even have one to begin with. She says she planned nothing, she doesn't believe me, and that I am just trying to stir up troubles. But a couple of the more honest employees back me up, at least in part. One points out that 'Sam', who is carrying a fantasy anthology, hates reading, and they know they have seen me with that book in my possession for any number of weeks. But she refuses to listen to anything, claiming that, at worst, I misplaced my bag in the warehouse, and am making wild accusations against good people to stir up trouble.

So I am back in the warehouse, looking around for my bag (it is kind of like a huge yellow duffle bag of the style (but not color) that soldiers or seamen use), but now much more of the warehouse staff is against me, and more and more I find myself involved in slightly dangerous near misses with warehouse equipment which is where it shouldn't be. Stuff that isn't really all that dangerous, but kind of threatening, like they are trying to warn me off. But I keep looking around, and one of the guys finally gets angry enough to get more serious. It seems like there are two 'levels' to this warehouse, and he is somehow driving a forklift on the second level. These aren't floors, that would make sense, but not be dangerous. Instead it is like a second level about fifteen feet above the first that is formed from catwalks and the like. Stuff that is there, but isn't super sturdy.

Anyway, there are some racks of pipes, the kind and size that they sometimes install along the street, segments perhaps 12 feet long and about a foot in diameter, and lots of these pipes are stacked up together, and one of them drives a forklift out on to this rack of pipes so that they break out of the rack and start to rain down around me. Worse, the forklift no longer has a sturdy base, so it is plunging down on top of me, as well. While this is not a nightmare yet, it is getting more and more serious, and I end up laying flat on the ground while the forklift comes to a stop about six inches above me. Getting close enough to truly be dangerous!

[Somewhere around here is when I woke up for the second time, then fell back to sleep.] I am soon stalking through the building, looking for the supervisor who started all this again, and she is still hiding, so it takes a lot of time and effort. By this point I am determined I am getting paid for the (at this point turning into two days) time that I am spending looking for my stuff which they have stolen from me. I finally find her and start to berate her about the latest attacks, and she tries to categorically deny everything, saying there is no way such a thing almost happened, just to have one of the employees not under her thumb come up and say "Oh no, so-and-so did dump his forklift down a load of pipes. We were wondering why he had been so stupid," so again, I had witnesses backing me up.

Suddenly she stops for a moment, and seems to remember something. She tells me that the black high school around the corner was off yesterday and is off today, and maybe some of them have seen something, and can help me to find my stuff. She is very insistant that I go ask them about it, and is telling me what to say to them, giving me a quote in a foreign language, though I am not sure if it is in French or Spanish. Anyway, she keeps repeating it over and over again until I actually write it down. About that time, my friend Carl, who neither of us saw standing there, steps out and verbally tears her a new one. He may have even physically attacked her slightly, ranting about what kind of a horrible person was she? I say something like "Let me guess ... what she was telling me to say was a horrible insult that would get me killed if I said it to the students at the school? Did you really think I was dumb enough that I would ask what you told me to, without first getting a trusted translation?"

I explain that I now have actual evidence that she is trying to kill me, waving the paper [in real life, my handwriting, no help, but in the dream it seemed it would work as evidence], and now she is going to be in so much more trouble. I angrily stalk off into the warehouse to continue looking for my bag. Problem is, now she knows she made a mistake, and the kid gloves are off. There are at least three or four of the warehouse workers now trying to kill me, and I am being chased by workers using all kinds of equipment.

When I try to duck into the racks of stuff and climb a little to get out of range, the kinds of cranes that work on ships or airplanes, the elevated ones that move around on two parallel tracks, are being used to chase me around and try to crush my head if I don't stay low enough to be in range of the forklifts. For a good ten or fifteen minutes, I am running around, fleeing for my life as there are constant near misses, screaming for help, but because of the no voice thing, nobody can hear me.

Finally I have made it near the edge of the warehouse, back by where the office area starts again, and pursuit dies off as I run into Carl, who has seen the last little bit of it, and is horrified that they are trying to kill me. That's when I woke for the final time, almost hyperventilating from all the running I'd been doing in the dream.
    3. Bad Boss at the Restaurant/Warehouse

      by , 06-17-2013 at 07:22 AM
06-09-2013 -- I think this dream starts out in the Goodwin's kitchen, but it is quickly turning into an odd cross between a restaurant and a warehouse. I think somehow it is Hewitt, even though Hewitt is neither of those. Shrug. The female manager in charge screams and yells at everybody, sticks people in new jobs with no notice and then curses at them and berates them for not being able to do the jobs with no training, and is generally the boss from hell.

I don't like it. In fact, I am rather against it. One girl is being yelled at, and she talks back and the woman fires her on the spot, and passes on several of her tasks to me. Thankfully I seem to know how to do them all, so I can handle it easily. Things get more hectic, more people are being yelled at, and another guy gets fired. I am given some of his tasks, and again can handle it easily.

During a lull in what is going on, I spend some time reading a kids book (not sure what, possibly one of Gordon's), and the witch catches me at it. She tells me to stop, acting incensed not that I would read at work, but that it would be a kids book, and I refuse. I tell her that I will read what I want, when I don't have anything else to do, and if she has a problem with it, I'll give her my resignation tomorrow. I'm now doing so much of the disliked jobs that I don't think she'll dare make waves, but I am not sure.

I am getting ready to leave for the day, when I get a phone call from the horrible boss, screaming at me some more, and I decide to tell it like it is, calling her a bitch, explaining how short-handed her department is, and explaining that if she fires me, she'll probably be fired tomorrow, because of how much work I now do.

My final tasks for the day are to move the bread racks and the elephants, and I put on my green elephant gloves to handle the task (one of those least favorite tasks that were passed on to me) while trying to soothe other employees who heard me talking on the phone, and are afraid I will be history. After I finish my work, I grab one of the full-size boxes of donuts, rather than the snack version we are supposed to take, and I head out the Penney-style exit, past all the trucks being loaded and unloaded.

Outside, a couple of dense employees (guys) are walking around talking about an issue with a truck while another guy is trying to figure out how to fix it. I dodge around them and get out of the way, but soon they have turned into Tony and McGee, and they meet Ziva in the parking lot. I show her my elephant gloves, and brag that I'll be out of the parking lot before she is, and there is some hint of a circus in the parking lot, as I head on my way.

I drive on home to BM's house, where I am in a back room with BM for a while, but not for any particular reason. Then we come out and JM is starting to scream at me, wanting to know why we were together, and also why I have already eaten when he is cooking a special meal, and it is almost dinner time. He also asks how school is going, but I am not about to tell him I may be fired tomorrow. Weird.
    4. Hiring at Hewitt and Shopping at Smith's

      by , 09-19-2012 at 05:42 PM
09-19-2012 -- [Very weird dream, about five hours into sleep period, scenes all over the place and very odd.]

Working in a fast food place of some sort, and see a pack of Mike 'n Ikes or Good and Fruity or the like, which I can't resist taking from a shelf. The place has turned into more of a convenience store, and a minute or two after I take it, I realize I have to pay for it, and try to give my manager a quarter. She doesn't want to take it, and has a policy of only taking bills, but I remind her it is only .25 cents, so bills mouldn't make as much sense.

There are brief hints of Doctor Who and the TARDIS, but it doesn't go anywhere. Instead, as I step into the TARDIS, it turns into an elevator, and just takes me to the second floor. I am now on the second floor at what seems to be a cross between the TAMS warehouse and Hewitt Associates. I don't work here, but for some reason I am in the building.

I am walking down the hall, and find an attractive woman who seems to be delivering some job applications that people have filled out or something. They won't take them, but ask the woman to wait, explaining there is more information needed or something, and that it will all be clear in a couple of minutes. I walk further to where some prospective new employees are being given a test, and they are being told "You will not be able to finish the test. Do not let this worry you, just get as far as you can in it." The questions are all numbered, but not all numbers are used, they jump around.

One guy thinks he has figured out something, and is suggesting everybody ignore any questions numbered under 1000, as their group all has employee numbers over 1000. I'm a little disgruntled, as my number, when I worked there, was under 1000. On the other hand, I am neither reapplying nor taking the test, so why should I care? [Oddly, I am convinced this bit of the story reflects on a Harry Potter fan fiction I read last night right before bed, where Dudley had a number of 00001.]

I walk back toward the attractive lady with the applications, figuring I would try and get a glimpse and see if I could figure what was missing from them. She doesn't want me to look, and seems offended or something, and suddenly we are in May Company at the Buena Park Mall, and either she chases me out the door facing La Palma, or I chase her out of it. We're approaching Dale Avenue, and need to cross to the Food King parking lot, but the traffic is really, really heavy.

Somehow the woman is now being carried in my arms, and is half a very sleepy BC, and half a sleepy cat. And either might be disturbed by all the loud, rushing traffic. There is finally a break in the traffic, and I start to run across the street, when there is some loud music behind us in the mall parking lot. I make it safely across the street and into the Food King parking lot, but now the music is in front of us. It is a group of punks (almost a gang) who are going shopping. As we grab carts and start toward the door, they are telling us we can't go shopping because they are going shopping.

We try to ignore them, and as we approach the door, BC has warped into Dale. Somehow we already have stuff in our carts as we approach the door, and it seems like we have to be checked out to go in, rather than the other way around. Odd. Anyway, we are supposed to have four 12 packs of sodas, and the punks ahead of us only have two, so they steal two from our cart, and the guy checking them in doesn't seem to care. But since Dale and I no longer have four, they aren't sure about letting us in.

Soon they are cooking something for us, but since we don't have all the ingredients they wanted, they aren't making what we ordered. I try to be pleasant, but explain that since they aren't making what we ordered, we'll try it, but if we don't like it, we'll refuse it. One of the punks is making fun of us, so I suddenly start beating him, seriously, about the face, really smashing it up pretty badly. I am speaking to the manager about the whole situation when Dale gets mad, and starts slamming the face of the employee into a table, smashing him up pretty badly, as well. The manager says he was thinking about firing the guy, anyway, and I am trying to make sure Dale doesn't go too far and kill the guy.

Soon we're sitting on one of the benches outside the store. It is late at night, and for some reason I have a deck of cards and am asking Dale to "pick a card, any card." Except I've forgotten how whatever trick I was going to do was supposed to work, so I just put the deck in my pocket and forget about it. We're discussing some sort of trip we want to take at the end of the month, but don't know if we can pull it off, probably not. Dale is falling asleep, while I am matching up these strange little bits of stone, and whenever I find two that are alike, they disappear. I am soon realizing they are Runescape strange rocks.
