In this dream there were a lot of flashback type moments and fake memories, and I wasn't always sure whether I was in a flashback or a current timeline in the dream, so it is hard to write in chronological order.

I was working as a detective with the police in an american city that I didn't recognize. My partner was a man that you might think of as the stereotypical cop, big muscles, slightly overweight, very serious about his job. We worked out of a station on a new york-esque street and we each worked in the front of the building. The room was horizontal parallel with the street and had glass windows covering the entire wall kind of like you would see in a downtown clothing store. As we were looking over cases on the computers my partner got a call for us to check out the crime scene of a homicide. We immediately got up and left for the scene. It was raining hard and it was already dark outside. I got in the passenger seat of the car and we talked about the call as we drove out of the city and into the countryside. I got a call from a friend who apparently ran a crime organization or something, I think she was a weapons dealer or something like that. She told me that the cops were in coalition with the yakuza again. She said "aren't you glad that you joined that corrupt organization?"

Then there was a flashback type event where I remembered a point before I became a detective. I remembered the yakuza in the city controlling the streets and the police looked the other way. The robbers and murderers from their organization always "got away" because no one did anything about it. I remember vaguely someone getting stabbed in an alleyway.

Apparently this was in the past, the connection was eventually uncovered, and the corruption was supposedly purged.

As we were driving we got a call from the chief of police saying there was a criminal organization compound discovered and there all units were to report for an immediate raid of the compound with "assistance". I knew the deal behind it, that it was my friend's place and the yakuza were raiding it, but I didn't say anything to my partner.

My memory is a little vague for a while but when we got there it was in the middle of a almost canyon like place, and down into a big (maybe 30m wide) hole in the ground with water at the bottom (maybe a spring?) there was a walkway into a big metal door in the rock on the side of the hole.

I must have snuck away from the pack of police and yakuza gathering at some point, because I was on the other side of the hole spying what was going on hiding on the branches of a dead tree. No one seemed to notice me even though thinking back I should have been plainly visible in the situation as it was morning now and light out. The police stayed on the high ground to apprehend any escapees, and the yakuza entered the compound. I figured that even though my friend was a criminal, the right thing to do would be to help her and her gang, since the yakuza would probably kill or torture them. After the yakuza had all stormed inside I ran in through the front doors. At first I tried to be stealthy but in the narrow steel hallways I was soon found and I started sprinting through the hallway which occasionally had sets of stairs going up.

The group that saw me first were unable to catch me as I ran deeper into the compound. When I ran into another group of yakuza on the next set of stairs I beat one to the ground, and then I grabbed another guy and threw him into two yakuza girls to keep them from following me as I ran up the stairs. (As I was in complete police uniform I had a holstered gun but I don't recall ever using it).

When I got to the next group one guy had a katana and tried to fight me with it but I was able to take it out of his hands and knock him out with a punch to the jaw. I kept fighting but my dream ended there.

This was a violent dream, wow . I wonder what happened to my friend?
