    Menthol and Marriage

    Blame it on the menthol.

    Color legend: Non-dream Dream Lucid

    Lucid #98: Menthol and Marriage

I'm watching my son E perform some kind of a play with other 3-year-olds. At one point he's supposed to pretend a wiffle ball bat is a magic wand, but of course he goes waving it around dangerously close to other kids' heads. I run over to intervene but another mother gets there first. "I'll take that," she says, plucking it out of his hands.

"Sorry! Thanks for grabbing that from him," I say, embarrassed that she got there first. The woman gives me an unfriendly "where were you?" look. This annoys me, but as the father of the kid who was going nuts with a wiffle ball bat, there's not much I can say. I look back over at the play and E, laughing merrily, leaps over a low stone wall and goes running off God-knows-where. I take off after him...

...and have a false awakening in complete darkness. I hear Wife stir in the darkness and she asks me why I'm awake. I tell her that "I had this crazy dream where [E] almost hit a bunch of other kids in the head with a wiffle ball bat." I move to settle back against the pillow and realize that it's way, way too dark in here.
    "I'm dreaming," I tell her.

"Mm-hmm," is her sleepy reply, and I hear her roll over.

"It's super dark in here," I say. "I can't even see you." She doesn't respond but she rolls over again, leaning her head against my shoulder and putting her hand on my chest. I'm feeling really frisky and I think about asking her whether she wants to "make out a little bit."

Before I can unleash this suave line on her, she exclaims, "God, your breath!" and rolls away in horror. As she says that, I notice that the inside of my mouth feels nasty and vaguely thick, like my pre-bed dental care has totally worn off.

My confidence is a bit punctured, but I respond, "This is a dream. I can't possibly have bad breath in a dream."

"Okay, if you're sure," she says.

I move toward where her voice is coming from and try to kiss her. I wind up just finding her feet, which start flailing around when I touch them. "Why are you facing the wrong way now?" I ask, confused and a little exasperated.

"I don't know!" she responds. Holding on to an ankle, I very clumsily sort of turn her around. Since it's dark, I can just imagine that she's now facing the right way. As I do, the light in the scene increases ever so slightly until I can see her. I've managed to put my "death breath" from earlier out of my mind, so we kiss.

As they say, "one things leads to another", and the dream ends with roughly 4 minutes of very vivid LD sex before I wake up.
Describing this part in detail would be a little too personal and graphic, but even after having a fair number of lucid dreams, the realism and detail of LDs still amazes me.

Sometimes you have to take a break from lucid adventuring and just get some

Getting close to that big 1-0-0 my friend.

Ha ha, I guess so! It wasn't what I set out for but I guess there's something about the combination of false awakenings, peppermint tea, and dopamine.

And thanks, man, I'm really excited! If I can stay on point, I should be able to get #100 this month! It's weird to think about. Still feel like a newbie in so many ways.

Blimey I'd like to bottle whatever it is you've got, we'd make a fortune, your ld rate is redonk.

Thank you kindly! I think that something which made a big difference this weekend was being on vacation, getting tons of sleep, and being motivated about the shared dream experiments I've been doing the past few days.

As for bottling, I'm definitely going to have to do some further attempts with this menthol + mucuna pruriens combo. Might have to think about the insomnia issue a little!

I'm gonna get my hands on some huperzine, 5-htp and mucuna over the holiday... And sleep in

Conveniently SSILD combats insomnia from supplements in my experience.

Sounds good, man! And of course, do your due diligence on mucuna pruriens. I got lightly chastised via PM a little while ago for not mentioning that a person should do their homework before experimenting with dopamine precursors and stick with lower doses. It's a good point. I researched thoroughly until I was satisfied that my dosages were totally safe for my health profile, but I'd have exercised lots of additional caution with the dopaminergic supplements if I suffered from depression, had schizophrenia in my family, etc.

Good to know, I'll exercise due caution.

That was a fun read, CL. I like how you work your Jedi mind tricks on your dream wife: "This is not the breath you're looking for.''

I used to use LD for sex a lot, but now that I know what I'm doing and I'm lucid much more often, I guess the urgency has worn off, and I'm enjoying more wholesome activities... such as... well, laying eggs.

BTW, did you really tag your dream "bad breath"?

LOL. Yes, that was a bit of a Jedi mind trick. So much easier than the real world where I am required to actually focus on personal hygiene. Way less tedious to just command DCs to ignore the fact that my breath is making them feel faint.

Yeah, it's not really a big focus of mine either, mostly because I'm overwhelmed with options for LD ideas that I will never be able to do in waking life. I spend more time fulfilling the wishes of my inner 10-year-old (fly to space!! be a ninja!! compete in the Olympics!! travel into the aurora borealis!!)

And yes, I'm afraid that I did tag it "bad breath"! While I'm hoping that this won't be a recurring feature of my lucid dreams, I must prepare for the worst. =D

      Even with all that peppermint...

LOL. You're right... I hadn't even thought of the peppermint! The very idea that I doubted, even for a moment, the minty-freshness of my breath. For shame!!
