An Art Show, Ryan Sadness, and Rice Pasta

    Dream - Lucid

I was at some art show/contest. I remember wondering whether or not I should enter, because I don't paint or draw, but I take decent photographs and I write. I was wondering whether or not it would be ok for me to enter a poem or story. I remember knowing that the show wasn't just for paintings and drawings, but for all forms or art, even written art. I believe I did enter a written piece.

I also remember I had just started a new job at some restaurant, even though my boss was the same as she is in my waking life job. I remember coming into work and putting an apron on. It was my second day on the job, and I remember asking my boss what I needed to do. I rang someone up on the touch screen register, but then I went in the back and did some stuff. I knew that I was supposed to be back there anyway. I had to learn all the stuff back there before I learned register.

My mom was taking me to Ryan's (I guess for some reason I couldn't drive myself?). It was nighttime, and I had decided to get back together with him. My mom pulled up into Ryan's driveway and I got out of the car. I saw him through a window. He was wearing a forest green apron. I started getting a sinking feeling, the same that I had been getting before we ended things.

I entered the garage, and Ryan was in there with tons of food all lined up on a table. He had been grilling.
"You've been out there grilling in the rain?", I asked.
    "Yup.", he said.
The sinking feeling in my stomach only got worse. I knew I couldn't really do this, as ideal as it may seem.

I said something along the lines of
    "I can't do this, Ryan."
He just kinda smirked at me and said that I should probably take off, and that he was going somewhere too.
"Where are you going?", I asked.
He looked at me with that sick smirk on his face and said
    "Don't even worry about it."
I asked him to please tell me, but he just repeated his previous statement.

I then remember being outside. Someone else was with me, asking if my mom was coming back to pick me up. I told them yes. I remember many people being in the front yard. I saw my mom's car approaching the house from the right.

I remember being behind some counter. I have no idea where I was, but it looked like a cloudy day outside. I remember seeing lots of girls all dressed up to go to prom. One girl walked up beside me. She looked like a girl I knew back in high school named Emma. She wasn't too dressed up, just wearing a nice top and a skirt. I remember it was my high school's prom night. I saw some marker board outside that had all this stuff written on it about the prom.

I then remember I was doing something behind the counter, when one of my professors walked up next to me. We still haven't met in waking life, but we email back and forth about a class I need to take to graduate. I remember looking at my phone and seeing that she finally had answered all my emails. I remember the first part of one said "(hurry)". I don't remember what else it said though.

I didn't think the professor had seen me, but she turned around. She had a white mug of coffee sitting by some papers. I almost spilled it, and apologized to her. She was nice about it and said that was alright. She then recognized me and asked me how I was. I told her I was alright and asked her the same. She then started talking to me about how I needed to hurry up and get the class approved by my advisor. She was saying that I needed to hurry because my advisor would give me some refund if I had everything approved by a certain time, I can't remember what it was anymore though. I told her thank you, and she left. She approached another lady and they had accidentally switched coffees.

Then, I remember sitting down with my mom. We were eating some pasta dish, but instead of regular noodles, she had used rice noodles, and she had made the sauce with soy instead of dairy. My mom was complaining that it didn't have enough flavor. I agreed with her. We still kept eating.

We ate in silence for awhile, and I started to let my mind wander as I thought about how I needed a new bike. I remember seeing a flash of some bike rack that was attached to the side of a big drainage ditch, right above the hole where the water flowed through. I remember many bikes being on it, I specifically remember a light pink one being on the very far left side. I knew that was where Kacey usually kept her bike.

I then stopped thinking about that and was still eating the pasta. I told my mom
"I forgot I was even eating rice noodles and that there's soy in the sauce!"
    My mom said
    "Me too!"
The pasta really wasn't that bad after all.

You recently broke up with Ryan? Sorry.

BTW, I've done some writing in my time too. Some of it was pretty good.

I love the ending of your dream. In a simple way, it is hilarious.
