The desert hostage

I had this dream the night of July 12th, 2011
M and I are in his car. We're driving along a bumpy, dirt road. It is dusk. I ask him to turn his lights on. As we are driving, a group of younger boys are running alongside the road. They have a red/blue/white soccer ball and are chasing it. Dust is everywhere. One of the boys kicks the ball and it hits the car. He keeps kicking it and hitting the side of the car by the front tire. M tries to drive around them but I tell him to just stop, they'll go around us. They do.
We continue on and its getting rather dark now. We come to an intersection of sorts. On the other side of the road is a darker man in an older, 'souped up' SUV. He has really shiny, silver rims. Someone makes a snide remark, either the SUV owner or M, and they start to get hostile toward one another. They are talking about racing or showing off their cars. I am uneasy and don't like this guy. I tell M to keep going. I plead for him to just keep driving. But he doesn't.
I get out of the car and start walking along the road. There is a dark tunnel. It is not reinforced. It is very narrow and difficult to traverse for larger vehicles. I decide I'll wait here for M. But then a series of big-rig trucks come along and as I'm sitting there (maybe I dozed off) I see that they're going to smash me into the tunnel wall because they're so wide. I try to run to the mouth of the tunnel, but its too late. I push mysef back, against some branches, but realize that these have been crushed already and are broken off of the tree. One truck misses me, but the next doesn't. I black out.
I wake up and its daylight. Closest to mid-morning, by appearance. I am bound and in the middle of nowhere in the desert. The sand is red here. There are bluffs behind me and I am seated on a wooden stage of sorts. A man is there with me. He looks like a local, dark hair, dark eyes. He rolls a net out over the bluffs- it is a sheer drop with jagged rocks below. The netting sways in the wind and doesn't look sturdy. He comes over to me and tells me to climb onto it. I immediately refuse, am overcome with fear, explaining how unsteady it looks. He tells me again to get on. I think of M and wonder where he could be. How he could have just let me walk away. Then I wonder where I am.
The man sneers and tells me to look over the bluff, down to the road below. I see emergency vehicles flying the wrong way down a highway (its paved) and up ahead I see complete obliteration. Destruction. Vehicles are upside down and inside out. Many of them. The man sneers again, as if to know who I'm looking for, and I feel very sad. No one is coming for me. I am alone. And I feel bad for being upset that M didn't come for me. I imagine it was all part of a plan.
