      Can't fly!!!

I have had about 6 lucids so far and i am just starting my dreaming adventures. The 6 lucids i have had have all been vivid and interesting there is just one problem: I can not fly no matter what I do. I have tried waving my arms like a bird and inly got 5 or 6 feet off the ground but then fell. I also tried running at very high speeds and then jumping but i just can not fly. I would love some suggestions thanks!

Are you completely believing that you can fly without any doubt in your mind? If you are doubting yourself at all then you will not its when you believe that you will be able to fly. Also for beginners its a lot easier if you had something technological to help you fly like say a jet pack or rocket boots because your not finding yourself relying on you to fly.
You can even try watching some movies and videos of people flying and say to yourself that I can do that and I will do that be sure of yourself.

Dreams that last for a few seconds
      house more wisdom
      Then those that last forever.
      It is always our nightmares
      that are the most vivid.
But if the vividness was taken away
would they really be so scary?

How good is your LD stability?
You would have to be very gifted to learn to fly in your first 6 (or even 20) LDs. Maybe find some other interesting and easier activities to enjoy in your LDs. I am still struggling with flying and look at my LD count!

They're both right... you need to have one a stable dream--you know the difference when you're lucid of a dream that you may wake up from if you assert too much "I think therefore I am/it happens/etc" and one you feel so glued into it's like real life or even more vivid.

IF that's your problem one thing I find good is to focus on something to stare at before trying anything, whether it be the general dreamscape or say a random detail in your dream (but do not focus too hard because you may end up immersed in it, that's why I love/hate dream books, I can rarely read one without ending up in it).

Then the confidence aspect, you can do anything if you believe it. You don't always need to physically move to do it--grow wings, levitate, jet pack, swim, a magic potion, etc.--as long as you think you can fly rather than you will try to--as in a dream things really are translated verbatim, you can spend a whole dream en route somewhere rather than just ending up there depending on how you think about something, very common in non lucid dreams. Just work your way up to flying at will by using things like Mirui987 said devices or aids until you are comfortable without them.

Well all the lucids I have had so far (except my first one) have all been fairly long and very easy to control in some parts. I just had one last night for instance and i was very lucid and i just couldn't do anything i wanted. For instance fly or manifest an object it was frustrating. But in some lucids i was able to get off the ground and fly a little but i then became frightened and fell to the ground.

Maybe try going on a tall cliff jump and lie on your belly while flying and put your arms out and wave them. MAybe....?

Maybe you know in real life that flapping your arms simply does not work, so you don't expect it to work in your dreams. However, you have no qualms about flapping your arms to make yourself swim.

If you have self-doubt in your waking life, it can impede your ability to fly. Flying (and teleporting) represent freedom to most people in their dreams. If you feel trapped or bound by something in your waking life, especially self-doubt, it will reflect in your dreams. You must absolutely believe that you can fly, because the fact is, we can do anything we want in lucid dreams. We are only limited by our beliefs and imagination.

I don't have much LD experience but when I flew, I made the decision to fly. I would like to say that it is a lot like attempting a new task in waking life. When you try to do something difficult, you are setting yourself up for failure for lack of commitment. When you decide to do something difficult, you will either "reach failure" or succeed. When I refer to reaching failing vs. failure, it is the difference between not giving enough to succeed vs. giving it all and it not being enough.

      Learn to be all in.

It took me a while to learn to fly... for a bit i just glided across the ground but didn't have much control. It changes for me in a dream where I was riding in a car at night with some friends. I realized i was dreaming and decided to try to fly again. I leaned out the window while we were cruising down the road and thought to myself... I'm either going to fly or I'm gonna eat pavement. So i leaned out, closed my eyes and imagined myself soaring up. When i opened my eyes I was flying above the car I was previously in... from then on out I have had complete control over flying. So maybe put yourself in a situation where it's "do or die". Only make sure you really are dreaming first.
