Cutting people is easy, just use magic wand.

It never works as I expect. It usually cuts out some of the border and some details like loose hair. Also, it doesn't work when the img is bad quality and the object has a shade nearing the bg.

Pen tablets help.

And, Kromoh, one way to cut smoothly is to use the Pen tool. You can plot points around the images and manipulate the lines between the points, to make them match whatever curvature there is. Then, when you point all the way around the image, you can select the path and cut it out.

Cutting people n' stuff out:

How to get excellent cuts and smooth clear cuts. It depends on what you want to cut. Generally, if youwant to cut something out, do NOT use any of the lassos, wands, etc, use the PEN TOOL and MAKE A SELECTION!!!!! Hair is tricky. If your background is distinct and is not a different varieties of colors, use the extract filter, and if it still has residue after the etract filter, go over the edges with the eraser, 50% flow, low-ish opacity, and 0 hardness.

ONLY use the wands and lassos if your lazy! The reason I said pen is because you have lots of control and it's a vector, so the selection won't be pixely when enlarged.

Haven't been in this thread for like a year!

The way I cut stuff out is usually, grab the magic wand tool and just select the major parts of whatever it is. Then there is usually shit left over or too much selected. So you use the mask thing (circle in a square at the bottom of the tools palette) and it will turn red. Then just paint with the brush all those extra bits.
I dunno if it's the BEST but it's definitely the quickest.
