Thread: last movie you saw - and what did you think of it?

Hubby and I watched Grand Torino (sp) last night and it was awesome. The ending seemed a little anticlimatic, but it made sense and fit the movie well.
I wonder if Clint Eastwood is really going to retire, or if he'll end up getting bored and coming back like Stephen King.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - Not bad. Not quite as good as the others, and I feel like there is a massive, gaping hole there, without Rachael Weisz. It seemed like it tried to be a little too much like its predecessors, though. I was pretty drunk by the end of it, though, so I don't even know if I remember enough to write a credible opinion on it.

DOA: Dead or Alive - Pretty fun game-to-movie adaptation, but suffering from the same curse that befalls most (if not all) game-to-movie adaptations; just not that much depth or quality to it. The fights were pretty cool, and I was really impressed with how well the non-martial artists (like Jamie Pressley and Devon Aioki) did in their fight scenes. All-around, just a fun, silly movie to watch. Oh, and - as of right now - I don't know who played Christie, but dayumn she was hot.

V for Vendetta - Not the first time I've seen it, but still an awesome movie. I honestly don't know why people hate on it so much. Natalie Portman was just amazing. I can't help but feel so bad for her, when she's going through imprisonment, and I love the completely overwhelming sense of betrayal and near spiral into vertigo she goes through, when she realizes what's happened.

Death Race - It was pretty good. I almost want to say it was better than I expected, but I'm not quite sure about that. I swear Tyrese gets bigger and bigger, every time I see him. The action scenes were pretty awesome, and I dunno who played "Frank's" navigator (yet), but good lord. She was smoking hot, too.

Just got finished watching Taken.

Wow.

Right up there with Man on Fire. Outstanding movie. Liam Neeson was such a badass.

3:10 to Yujma Enjoyable, but lacked flair. Didn't overly care so very much for the ending.

Unforgiven Liked the realism, stayed interested throughout.

Sukiyaki Western: Django Best of the three. So much to love about this film it hurts.

Popcorn flick, at best, but there's just something about hot chicks and ass-kicking that goes a long way.

A Dirty Shame: A hilarious John Waters flick about a group of sex addicts trying to invent a new sex act. I enjoyed it immensely, but then again I have an affinity toward things of the camp-y persuasion. In line with Waters' metaphorical style, I especially liked when Johnny Knoxville sees Tracy Ullman's crotch on fire.

Gran Torino: Good, but even despite being raised in an extremely narrow-minded mid-western community, Eastwood's character's blatant racist comments kind of shocked me. But overall, I liked the movie better than I thought I would. Plus, you get to see Eastwood smile more than once...which is a pleasant addition to his other usual two emotions: pissed, and even more pissed.

John Q - Such a great movie.

Went to the movies with some friends Friday night and watched Taken. Little things annoyed me, but overall I really liked the build-up of it all. It has great action scenes.

I also finished the Bourne Trilogy today, and I was blown away by The Ultimatum. Blown away enough that I wish they weren't really making a fourth one simply because the other three were cash cows.

What kind of things annoyed you?

I just watched The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

I thought to myself at the first fight scene, "Wow, this is awesome, why did so many people not like it?" Then I realized that was the only fight scene... It was a good movie, but felt kind of empty.

The character of Bryan Mills's daughter and the way she runs. The cliched "Dad, can I please go?" Pretty much just the two girls. But hey, those are their characters.

Everything else was awesome. Whoever composed for that movie did an amazing job that reminds me a lot of Harry-Gregson Williams.

Lol. Ok. I'm with you on that. She was a bit annoying. Though, cliched as it was, the whole "Daddy, can I please go" was completely realistic, when it comes to "little girls." That's just how most daughters really are.

But, yeah. Everything from the one girl lying to get them out to Paris, and then going completely buck wild, and the daughter being the completely innocent one, and all of that: I'm with you. That was a bit textbook.

You're right about the realism of that idea, and it's only right considering that Father-Daughter is a main theme of the movie. Yeah, the daughter being completely innocent was a bit strange too.

I loved the fact that Liam Neeson's character was unrelentless. There were times when I thought, "Nah, he won't do that. It's crazy."

But he does anyways.

Ghost World ~ Interesting film that really managed to get stuck in my head. The characters in it were just perfect.

I just finished Kiss of the Dragon.

One of my favorite Jet Li movies. Loved it.

I just saw 21, cool movie, I've been wanting to see it for a long time, I wouldnt mind seeing it again.

The last movie I saw was Fun with Dick and Jane. I'd seen it before and I didn't really plan on watching it as it was getting late, but I enjoyed it. I love the part when he takes back the lawn

I also saw Coraline yesterday as well. A bit bizzare and not something I'd show a sensitive 8 year-old, but I enjoyed it Interesting spin on a sort of dream-world. The claymation was a bit choppy at times, but that's really the only complaint I have. Besides, anyone who can stand there and move those clay figures one frame at a time for hours upon hours upon hours deserves a round of applause.

From what I saw of it, it sucked big time. I walked out of it about an hour in. I was contemplating leaving the entire hour. It just wasn't doing anything for me at all. This was only the fourth movie I ever walked out of. I was so excited to go see this movie today too. The disappointment put me in a rather bad mood.

I'm probably going to go see Coraline tomorrow. Just because I love REAL D. And it should be a lot of fun just for the 3D visuals. Though it's not really my kind of movie. As long as it's not full of singing, like A Nightmare Before Christmas, I should be ok with it.

Aww. That sucks. I was expecting at least a good popcorn flick out of it. I didn't think it would be that bad. I'll still check it out, sometime, but I doubt I'll pay to see it in the theaters.

I thought it was amazing...Meryl Streep is one of the best living actressess of all time!

I figured it would be exactly the same as Jumper... I'll see it this weekend probably.

Oh, btw, I watched Freedomland, with Samuel L. Jackson and Julianne Moore, last night. It was ok. A bit of a snoozer, though. I really like Julianne - and she did a great job - but her (obviously insane) character had a tendency to ramble on and on, and I just really wanted her to shut the hell up, by the time the movie was over.
