Yeah, exactly my thoughts after I first saw it.
You'd definately like Arthur C. Clark's book then!

(2001 was based on a short story of his and Kubrick
and him wrote the screenplay together)

I think Kubrick in general is one of the best directors.
Always ahead of his time. Dr. Strangelove, anybody?

Also I saw The Village. It started out okay....got a little better, and then I figured out the twist waaaaay before I should have, and it ruined the rest of the movie. It wasn't horrible, but I wish I didn't figure out everything when I did.

That movie was the last nail in Shyamalan's coffin, for me.

I liked The Village...and Lady in the Water. Signs scared the shit out of me. I refuse to see The Happening.

Apparently there is going to be an Unbreakable 2? I wasn't aware the first one was that great?

I watched Avatar last night. Again.

Pretty much the only film of his I'll give credit as a finished work that accomplished what it promised/intended is The Sixth Sense. Unbreakable minus the last five minutes could have been pretty good, but it was the beginning of a long series of let-downs. His other films are a mish-mash of disparate memes that never get properly tied together and none of which are fully realized, with increasingly lackluster twists and, it would seem, deliberately stilted acting.

Finally saw Battle Royale. Good movie. Not even going to try and get the sequel. It's not that kind of movie.

Interesting coincidences: before bed last night, I put on the next episode of Northern Exposure (I've been slowly working my way through the whole series for a couple of years now), and they were talking about this movie, Awakenings. Also, it was an episode where Joel had a horrible fever, and I've been fighting a horrible fever for about three days now (mostly over it).

EDIT: oh, and the last movie I saw was Coraline. It didn't stand out to me, but definitely a fun watch.

Before I went to sleep, I watched Resident Evil : Degeneration ( aka BioHazzard : Degeneration ) It wasn't that good, but it did give me the dream of my life. And I'm thankful to that.

I saw The Bicycle Thief and Treasure Planet over the past two days. Bicycle Thief was an interesting but ultimately pointless movie in my opinion. I'm sure if I'd invested more into it, I could easily have become depressed by the events in the story, but I didn't, and I'm glad. 6/10

Treasure Planet is a movie I've known about since it was first released but only recently became interested in. I'm really not a fan of Disney's animated movies from the early part of the last decade, but I bit the bullet and watched it yesterday. I have to say, it was much better than I was expecting and the main characters were actually engaging. Visually, the traditionally 2d animated elements were amazing, when they were onscreen. I thought there was still an excess of CG elements. Still, I was pleasantly surprised and I enjoyed it. 7/10

The Descent. It was decent (hurr). But yeah, I quite liked it, except the ending that was totally not cliche.

Last movie I watched would be one of my childhood favorites, Wild America. Interesting coincidences: When I was searching on demand for movies to watch I was thinking about how bad I wanted to see the movie again, and voila there it was

Very....different. No quite sure what I think of it yet.

Ya, I saw it years ago and have positive but not very specific memories of it And I was mostly over my mystery fever by the end of the day on Wednesday, thanks.

Last movie was The Hurt Locker, didn't even know it was a war movie going in, just that it won the Oscar and everyone was like, "Oh, it really deserved to win." Yeah, it deserved to win Very strong, character-driven film.

Saw Repo Men on Monday, it wasn't bad, but not great. Sci-fi/action fans will enjoy it, but you don't need to see it in the theater. There were little nods to many much better films throughout, but the execution just had a little too much Hollywood gloss to it and not enough thoughtfulness behind it.
