A Bug's Life is probably inspired more by Seven Samurai than communism, but then that raises the question: are there communist undertones in Seven Samurai? I'll have to think about that...

About Pixar's filmography, I would have to say that Cars is their least film. I still love it though, and eagerly await the sequel. But it's just a little strange that Pixar will be releasing two sequels in as many years.

      Whoo! Toy Story 3!!!

Lol, this just made me remember how my imaginary friend when I was little was Buzz Lightyear.

Hm, they just announced Monsters Inc. 2.

I am kind of disappointed that 3 out of the next 5 Pixar movies will be sequels, especially after Pixar's amazing recent run of creativity.

Monsters Inc. had one of the most perfect scripts ever and had definite closure. I don't know how exactly it could be continued or what exactly is the point given that the whole purpose of the world was to scare children and at the end of the movie this was rectified.

However, the grasshoppers know that if the ants could coordinate a response, they could easily overthrow them, due to their huge numbers. Flic is the revolutionary who shows the ants that they can easily produce far beyond what they need if they all just work together, and shows that the grasshoppers are redundant and despicable. The ants then overthrow the grasshoppers with ease, leading to a life of plenty and a communist utopia.
Ummmm.... that does sound like the beliefs of Marx, but in practice that replicates a Communist regime overthrowing another Communist regime, does it not?

I disagree. Sequels are notorious due to their unoriginality. But, what if Pixar manages to be as brilliant with their sequels as they are with their originals?

I think there should be an Incredibles sequel. A lot to work with there.

      Update on Toy Story 3:

There have been some official screenings attended by critics, and Pixar fanatics. Although they weren't allowed to reveal many details, apparently a ton of people broke out crying in the last thirty minutes.

I thought you were the one complaining about sequels...

I'm not saying they'll be bad movies, I'm just saying I'd rather have more than 2 out of the next 5 movies be new franchises, because one of the best things about Pixar movies is their stunning originality. A rat who becomes a gourmet chef by pulling hair, a widower who flies away in a house tied to helium balloons, the last robot on Earth trying to find love and save the planet, retired midlife superheroes, an alternate monster universe powered by fear, a hypochondriac clown fish torn apart from his son, an ant society which goes through a transition to a communist utopia... where else do you find scripts anything remotely like this?

I'd just prefer more surprises than revisits.

I don't know. For me, sometimes more is better. I like to see what becomes of old characters. But, I see your point.

I want to see Up 2. Up was the best kiddy movie I've seen in a long time.

There should not be an Up 2. Monsters Inc. 2 I can see, Cars 2 I see, and (maybe someday) Incredibles 2 I can see. But Up 2 should never happen. Up, Finding Nemo, and Wall-E are the only Pixar films that I felt certain closure. If they make sequels of them, fine, but I think they shouldn't.

I might go see it, if it gets good reviews.

I mean, many sequels or even animated movies nowadays come loaded with pop culture references and the like. It drives me crazy.

I would go see it Friday, but the friend I invited has College orientation, so we'll have to go Saturday. Bearing that in mind, PLEASE don't fill this thread with spoilers. Either that or just remind me not to look here Friday. XD

No, no spoilers, although I hear the end is really emotional.

It moved, and shows how valuable it is to be loved again, and I thought it was pitch perfect. It would be interesting to know how the creators had intended to end the story, but it was brilliant to have chosen with what was.

And now, Rotten Tomatoes has a consensus- and it's not even officially in theaters yet!

However, it seems that positive review is not completely unanimous:

I'm going to see it tomorrow if I can.

Same here. I'm excited, partly because of the reviews it's gotten and partly because I've waited a long time for a sequel.

The film has 130 ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

      All are positive.

Either some conspiracy is going on, or we have ourselves a masterpiece.

Just came back from the theater.

The Toy Story trilogy is the best trilogy ever.

Toy Story 3...I can't even begin. Do yourself a favor, go buy the tickets.

      Animation is beyond amazing.

The character depth makes the characters pretty much like real people.

      The plot was fantastic.

The humor was as good as you'd expect from Toy Story.

      Bring tissues. You'll cry.

Deliciously detailed, wonderful 3D, fantastic comedic timing, characters were absolutely amazing.

10/10 does no justice to this cinematic masterpiece. I don't think the awesomeness of Toy Story 3 can be expressed any better than in the words of Scott Mantz:

On a scale of one to ten, Toy Story 3 goes to infinity, and beyond.
      John 3:16

I saw this with my girlfriend the night it came out. It seemed that the teens/young adults significantly out numbered the children. I'm thinking that a lot of us were looking forward to it, because Toy Story was just that good of a movie in our childhood.

The movie itself was definitely not a disappointment. I recommend it to anyone.

      Spoiler for Scenes in Movie:

It sort of reminds me when I use to play with my toys, and ever since seeing the first movie when I was a kid, I would think that my toys would come alive when I would leave for school. I'm sure it was like that for you guys too
