if anything happened there, I don't see how the jurisdiction for this type of change would reach the US.

I seriously think nobody in the US (or any other country) has anything to worry about.

The only place I know of where they censor the internet is China. *they literally hand-pick which sites are approved and not approved by the government.

I live in Canada and that pisses me off!!! (But everything pisses me off...)

Proxies are fairly simple to use. There are several browser based ones where all you have to do is enter the desired address.

I generally use PHP Proxy when I have the need. http://www.phproxy.org/

Although sites like that will likely get blocked as well, so you may have to install some dedicated software.

There was a pdf with all this shit about it which will enrage you. I decided reluctantly, because I thought they may have some spyware in it or some government bullshit (it didn't I don't think), to download it and I thought I'd put it here for all you aussies to have a look at.

I know how to use proxies, I usually just do it through the browser or an add-on for Firefox. The add-on is good coz you can set a list since they expire/go off pretty quickly. But thanx for putting that there if others come in.

this is probably caused from some stupid human rights commission. human rights commissions end up trying to define the human rights for you. for eg "you don't have the right to look at porn"

The problem is all these things are going to get passed as well because people are too obsessed with child rights. Actually they're too paranoid about everything.

It's like when that teacher got banned from teaching because he called the kid a terrorist. The kid was disrupting the class and in that sense he was terrorising the class. In this sense me and my friends, when we were still in school even, concluded that children have too many rights.

The paranoia about pedophiles makes any guy who touches his kid a suspect. Just look if you go to a park or something and some guy is playing with his kid, touching him how parents always have, maybe occasionally touch their ass or something as he picks them up. He will get funny looks, whereas 20 or even 10 years ago before all the media hype over pedophiles no one would give it a second thought. They'll make it illegal to change your kids nappy (diaper) soon I swear. I think it's already illegal to do that or breast feed in public here.

IMO, instead of blocking child porn and whatever else they deem "inappropriate" they should actually encourage porn makers to get girls that LOOK a little younger then 18. So they are still legal and want to do porn, but they aren't harming kids, and the pedophiles won't harm kids because they can get their 'fix' by watching that porn.
They had the same sort of thing on this Louis Theroux episode about brothels. The brothel had a girl that looked about 14 maybe and talked like it too. The pedophiles always went for her. Keeps them off the real kids.

Ah, alas it will never happen until we get some real thinkers in government. All they're good for right now is banning stuff instead of looking at the situation and trying to find a way to minimise harm.

I just got news today that telstra (the company that owns all the phone lines/powerlines in the country) said they aren't going to implement it. There goes 120 million dollars....

I heard about that a while ago. I doubt it's going to go ahead. I can imagine a lot of people would be pretty pissed over that, plus the government has nothing to gain from such a move.

And wasnt Kevin Rudd promising BETTER internet at the election?!

Also, come on. It cant happen. When they tried to get that parent control filter for everyone in Australia, some kid went on the news and hacked it in like 5 minutes. Itd be pretty stupid, I doubt it will go ahead.

they don't listen to a single word the public says. That's why after complete disagreement from the public they are still trying to get it passed. Essentially if the filter is put in place, despite the OBVIOUS REPURCUSSIONS it imposes, the internet will futher slow from international servers, there will be rage and protests about any range of sites being blocked. And so on...

They will attempt to block Piracy, and Pornography once the "cp" filter is in place, which will be the lamest rubbish ever, and it won't even be funny.
