Go ahead and move it, i never know where to put things |

Its usually only done when the child is dying. Other wise, they never would have gotten the chance to see disney world, a place that many children would very much like to see. For these kids, there is no future, there terminally ill. I haven't heard of a sick kid who could recover being sent to disney world or the like. If that is the case, then I wouldn't support it. |

While there is a lower class, I am in it.
While there is a criminal element, I am of it.
While there is a soul in prison, I am not free.

The uk is a country of unemployed benefit dwellers, most kids from here never get to see disneyworld, or anywhere but the job centre and school. |

I have a problem with charitable giving in general. I think people use it as a means to make themselves feel better, justifying they don't actually have to help because they send money. It's like saying I'm not a racist because I have a black friend. |
|
Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.
I agree, they should probably help the kid be more comfortable with dying instead of acting like it's not going to happen. Taking their mind off it by sending them on rides. It's dumb. |

what worlds do you guys live in? it must be black and white |

You have a big heart, it's becoming of you. Whereas a dying kid's wish MIGHT be to go to Disney world, whose to tell them differently? It IS after all what THEY want. Let's apply this to a different situation with the same context shall we? Little kids want to eat cookies and candy all day yet their parents want them to eat healthy food because they ultimately know it's good for them. You can't relay calories, adipose tissue, and the like to a 5 year old. They know sugar is good and vegetables are yucky. Therefore it's a parent's duty to ensure their child IS eating proper foods as well though the kid's might not think too highly of it. Going back to the dying child that wants to go to Disney world situation...though your intentions might be good (ensuring that they have something to hold onto that lasts them more than two weeks) just the same, your wants may not line up perfectly with what they want. Wisdom is needed in situations like this. |

Things are not as they seem
Another important thing, when giving money to charity, is to know EXACTLY where it is going. Best to know someone locally (or someone who knows someone, it's not that hard to inform oneself) and give it directly to that person. Out of own experience: Big institutions are also bureaucratic organisations, a lot of that money is going to waste and is not used in the most effective way or goes right into own pockets (not all, but too much). Also there is the kind of 'help' that does more harm in the end. Another thing is that there are those governments in certain countries who take on the (for example) food and they are the ones distributing it, so a lot of it never reaches the ones that need it the most. |

Very true dajo, the biggest charity organisation in Australia takes 80% of profits. I don't know how they still run. Anyone who really wants to help should just go to the country themselves. But then I spose all those 3rd world countries would die off if everyone had that stance. |
|
Well a scenario where a child or ill individual would be sent to Disney World or the likes is similar to what they do in the make a wish foundation. And of course the purpose of this is to fulfill the last wish of a terminally ill individual. Which means this individual is going to die regardless of the treatment they receive. |

I think he's more talking about randoms that appear on the news to get money from people. ACA, TT etc. Sometimes even normal news. |

yes tommo correct ( altho im a she ) The case in particular that started the thought process was people in the town centre.. i was buying shoes and in a great mood, i came out of the store at the opposite end to which i entered it and there was a family sat with a table and home made leaflets and stuff asking people to donate money to send their sick child to disneyworld, I took the leaflet handed to me and read it as i walked through town and it stated that they needed money to take and i quote " 8 year old ben and his 4 siblings and parents to disneyworld as he had recently finished chemotherapy for leukemia and deserved a little joy now hes on his way to recovery and had a hard time" |
