      Dual/divided consciousness in dreams

      Anyone experience this?

Basically, in dreams, I sometimes have 2 or more minds that are all independent. I think with both minds. I observe both of the minds. Both minds are me. Yet, they are unaware of what the other one is thinking of, or even unaware of the other minds existence.

Just today, I had a dream with 2 main characters. I was both of them. At the same time. Both of them were me. I was thinking the thoughts of both, experiencing what they see at the same time, yet they remain oblivious to what the other mind is thinking of. I experienced both persons in first person perspective. The 2 people had conversations, arguments, and such. Yet, they were both me. It's like my mind is divided to the two of them.

There was no third consciousness in THIS dream. The only thing that I was in this dream was the 2 people. Both in first person. Both unaware of each others thoughts.

I retained the full memories of each existance, the thoughts of each person. And I only realized this when I woke up. I had had yet another multiple consciousness dream.

These kinds of dreams are pretty common for me. Yet I have no idea if they are common with you guys

So share the info with me, please. :c

That's never happened to me that I know of, and sounds strange. I don't know how that would be possible. Maybe you're just making up the two characters, and make up that they don't know about one another, like if you were writing a book and had two characters with different minds. If it isn't that, I don't know. Hopefully you don't have some split personality disorder that only happens during dreams.

Maybe it has something to do with how you can follow two different characters while reading or watching a movie just the way you described in your dream. You might have incorporated that mindset or way of thinking into you dream as an element of it.

Oh. This is not something happens in all of my dreams. The majority of my dreams are not like this. This is just something that happens to me quite often in dreams.

I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences.

And it's not an issue for me. It makes for a very interesting and fulfilling dream. Especially after waking up from it and actually remembering it all.

Sounds like a problem to me. Check your TCP/IP settings.

I've never had two independent thinking minds but I have perceived from two different perspectives at once. Splitting myself in two fighting as two people at once.

Sometimes I remember knowing things that my character was unaware of. Like, something will surprise my character but I'll somehow know how it got there. That might just be me making inferences afterward though.
      How vivid are these dreams?

These are the things that blow my mind. I don't know about you but when i see something epic and the collective is afraid of it i know i'm looking in the right direction.

Are you saying you remembered a whole life or a full dream? Either way i'm making this one of my lucid goals and report back at you if i succeed.

There is a possibility that you had two dreams and just thought they were the same dream, like a continued/recurring dream just from a different perspective because I don't understand how someone can have two consciousnesses but not be aware of what's going on with the other and then remember controlling both at the same time...

It very may well have been two dreams that your memory, in an attempt to remember, patched together thinking they were the same dream. What's difficult to comprehend is how both minds could have no knowledge of the other yet they were both controlled by your singular consciousness simultaneously. It's certainly not impossible I suppose, as we have many characters in our dreams that are just controlled by our mind without us being aware of them or their thoughts - and the mind is capable of some incredible things; but actually simultaneously "existing" within two perspectives and consciousnesses at once is something, not only difficult to grasp & visualize, but difficult to imagine how it could work in the singular mind. How do you know you were both consciousnesses if each was independent of the other and unaware of the other? You realized this when you woke up or during the dream? It would seem that to be able to realize this during the dream is impossible as it would link the two consciousnesses, and you said they were totally independent.

Ok, i found you and this site while googleing this experience, and after an hour of searching i am relieved to find someone who has any base with this. The only difference with me is that lying in my bed being me was one consciousness and the other was my dream character. I have been a lucid dreamer since i can remember dreaming, always in control of my character and surroundings, but last night it was something totally different. It was pretty weird, i would love to hear if you know or have any information on this, its something i would love to train.
