Body jerking more frequently when I go dream

My gf have been telling me that the past month I've been jerking in bed, almost every night.
Myself, haven't felt it. I only use to feel it if I try to meditate or performing WILD (which now been rare).

She said today that yesterday night when I was in bed, I jerked so I kinda flied up.
I haven't at all taken notice of these jerks, I think my mind is already sleeping when this happends?

If I understanded it right, the muscles in the body is jerking because it sending signals to brain to ask if the body is asleep?

Is it normal that muscles jerk when I'm off to sleep? does it always happends? even if I don't try to meditate or WILD?
Not sure if it been jerking before, but my gf haven't noticed it before anyway. But now it sounds like my body flies around abit when I'm going to sleep, lol.

I have something called "Restless leg syndrome", and I've gotten it from my father. My (and my father's) legs twitch on a rather predictable pattern when we go to sleep. I'm not sure if this is what you have. One thing that helps me is to stretch my legs before and after exercise, and before I go to sleep.

It sounds like you don't get sleep paralysis.

Is there any particular part of the body that jerks? I agree with Mindraker, it could be restless leg syndrome. Or it could also be Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. But that's just an opinion, you should consult someone if it starts bothering you, or if you wanna find out what it really is.

I hope it's nothing too serious. Good luck

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

My boyfriend always gets random muscle twitches whenever he's drifting into sleep. Never too violent or abrupt, more like a subtle spasm, but it never fails. It's never been a problem for him (or me, I don't wanna get a random elbow to the face). I'm pretty sure the dude above me is right, though. Probably a hypnic jerk.

Hi, i saw this topic and i had to join because i also have something like this.
I also have alot of times before i go to sleep, some sort of jerk, it is as if electricity runs through my body, on the otherhand, sometimes i see a white flash, or random colors.

Does anyone know what this could be?
(i just joined this site as i wanted to learn more about dreaming, thanks for the help! )

When I'm sleeping, whoever I'm sleeping with tells me that I twitch occasionally while I sleep. I believe its normal to move even when in complete sleep paralysis, especially if you are in an eventful/violent dream. Sleep paralysis doesn't COMPLETELY shut you down. If it's little things while you're sleeping, don't worry about it.

The sailor does not control the sea, nor does the lucid dreamer control the dream. Like a sailor, lucid dreamers manipulate or direct themselves in the larger expanse of dreaming; however, they do not control it. Lucid dreaming appears to be a co-created experience. ~Robert Waggoner
