Do you keep a public or a private dream journal?

Which do you prefer: keeping a private dream journal, or a public one that anybody can read on DV/somewhere else? What are your reasons?

I can never decide which to use. When I try keeping a public dream journal, I always either end up deleting it, not keeping up with it or making it private. On one hand, I like the idea of being able to share dreams more easily, but on the other they often seem just too personal However, I keep a really detailed private dream journal.

I have a private dream journal where i write whatever i want, all kinds of dreams, with very personal stuff and some things like names or private jokes that only me and my family will understand. Then, if i want to share a dream with you guys, i re-write it. I make it short, simple and understandable for all.

Both. I keep a private written journal; this allows me to be 100% honest and include details I'd never share publicly. I take my written journal very seriously. It's a sacred object to me, each new journal is carefully chosen and ritually consecrated before I write in it. It's a physical symbol of my aspiration to lucid dreamig and I give it a lot of loving energy.

I keep a public journal on dreamviews for my lucid dreams but I omit names of people I know and details I'd prefer not to share. I like doing this as a way to participate in the community and share my lucid experiences. I also like having a typed copy of my lucid dreams in case anything were to happen to my written journals.

I also keep both. My private journal stays on my computer and I type everything out even if I don't like it very much, with a few exceptions where I'll scrap a dream I really just don't want to remember (probably a bad idea, but I'm being honest). My public one here is more dreams I think are interesting or funny like I might post one here when I actually put down 3 dreams that day, or not share anything at all from a particular day or week. And obviously I take out some of the more personal stuff including people's names and any detailed sexual or otherwise inappropriate references. For the most part the content on the ones I choose to share is the same though because I feel that censorship can make a dream lose its meaning, and I usually make a note when I do take something out. I don't usually "rewrite" them but I do change up some parts to make them easier to read or to clarify.

It's actually helped me in writing my private journal when I post some of them here because as I transfer it over I often have to go into brackets to explain things so that people who aren't me will know what the hell I'm talking about, and that reminds me to try to be more specific and detailed in general. I don't want to be completely lost when I look back at it in 10 years, after all

Only private, since it already takes forever to hand write long dreams down. And hand written dream journals are way more cooler IMO .

I will have to give this some thought.
On the one hand, only writing for myself, I fear I will get lazy.
I tried it out yesterday and ended up with only handscribbled notes.
Will try today for a typed version, but one I will not post - following my mask.

The effect of wanting to have something to write in here has a boosting effect on my recall in general - but I am not comfortable to go on like I started out.
I think, it might be coming to a point, where you can pretty much look through me from a long enough stretch of nights.
It is something very valuable - but I definitively don´t want to throw out the key for it to all and everybody with an internet-access..

I suspect it is extremely hard to effectively self-censor, while you maybe don´t even have a clue to what exactly you are on about yourself - yet.
But looking at it - it could be clear as day to somebody else.

      Hmmm...

Need to have some more lucid dreams then - the sooner the better - to put them on here!

I know exactly how you feel about it, (you dream) getting too personal. I've felt the same way while recording in my DJ, & have reacted the same as you & ended up deleting it. I now feel as though I just don't care who reads what, I don't know these people that read my DJ, if anyone at all, mine are not all that exciting, but some may get a little personal. I have adopted the attitude that "I am I", & feel like a much more free person. Just how I feel.

I would like to sport this attitude myself MAXX.
      I am I.

But I am a tick paranoid about data-mining on the net and possible repercussions from that direction.
      Something to find a stance.

I keep a public one here. I'm just starting out, so I'm guessing having a nice trail to follow can be helpful if/when I seek advice.

But I still keep a private one by my bedside that includes various dreams that don't make the cut to public space. Ooh, if anyone gets a hold of that, they can blackmail me...

I prefer a private journal that's hand written. I can highlight things, underline, circle.. you know.

      I do both.

I keep a private notebook to keep track of all dreams I have and assist with recall.

I keep a public one here to both enhance my writing skills and also share my dreams with the people in this community.

I only write mine down in my little books. They're super private, I'd be mortified if anyone read them. I omit the super embarrassing stuff (...sex dreams), but still, they're absurdly embarrassing anyway.
