      Waking Dreams (Hallucinations)

Okay, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this topic, as it is technically not about dreams per se...

Does anyone know if it is possible to imagine something strongly enough to be able to see it in your mind, not during dreams, but while awake? That is, by sheer will you can make yourself see things that aren't there? I know it's possible with various hallucinatory substances (something I am strongly opposed to) so I wondered if the brain simply had the power to do this on it's own. Has anyone had any experience regarding this, or does anyone know if it is even possible?

      Thanks in advance for responses.

With sleep deprivation it makes it a lot easier to do. I don't really consider it to be hallucinations that are not in dreams though, just that you are very close to dreaming and being awake that it just becomes easy to switch between the two states.

There has threads on it in the past that got me interested in this though, I found them quite useful for starting out. Sadly I can only find one atm, if I find another I'll edit this post.

As PKJacker pointed out, sleep deprivation would do it - I have personally experienced such hallucination. Certain mental disorder will also allow you to manifest hallucinations, but often not like how you want it. Additionally, it is possible to hone your visualization abilities to the point it's almost as vivid as hallucinations, but better question is... are you prepared to for it? Sometimes you can be alone in a house and unconsciously manifesting your fears as these visualizations. So, better develop serious mental discipline before you go down this path!
