Lightbulb How i make my self sleep longer ?

      Hi friends !

We hear that changing sleep cycles can bring unexpected lucidity. One of the advices is to sleep more hours.

I usually can not sleep longer than my usual waking time, because i am used to get up at that time, but i discovered i can sleep more hours if i go to sleep in the afternoon, say at 6 or 7 pm or so, with the mindset of making a nap and then let my self stay in bed. This has worked with me, and provided me long and vivid dreams.
I think this is a good strategy to have lucid dreams, or at least interesting dreams !

Try it if you have time
I can not guarantee this will not mess up with your sleep rythms, but i think at least it will not be as detrimental as waking up later

I have definitely found that getting good sleep is crucial for LDing. My earlier days of trying way too hard got to be counter productive at times and left me with some pretty hazy days at times as well.

These days I make sleep a priority early in the night. I'm too old to sacrifice sleep for lucid dreams but I have learned that I can definitely have both.

Try being tired when going to sleep. Doing exercise, wether it's mental or physical can make you sleep more and better.

I do that too. I did that when I was in college and I still do that sometimes. The only drawbacks to that are that, as you said, it may cause you to not feel tired when you need to go to bed. So, I recommend that you don't do it that often.

Regular bedtimes & wake times help a lot, as does good sleep "hygiene" -- only use the bed for sleeping, have a clean & orderly bedroom, keep the room dark and quiet (or use a sleep mask & ear plugs) and comfortable temperature wise, etc.

Having a regular meditation practice I believe also helps, as this assists in recognizing and counter-acting monkey-mind thought chains that can interfere with falling asleep.
