Well, at night you have longer periods of NREM, and dreams associated with that sleep state tend to be shorter. During morning hours, or during naps if you are sleep deprived, you experience more REM sleep, which has dreams that are longer and can be very vivid. Your brain is a little more awake, too, leading to increased chances of lucidity.
I rarely dream when I nap, however. Apparently dreaming during naps can be a sign of sleep deprivation. If you are not sleep deprived, you might not go into REM at all. I think a lot depends on the person.
