      Hypnagogia Poll

Just wanted to know what types of HH most people experience. Mine are all visual only, no sound.

I mostly feel floaty and tingly, sometimes I hear beeping noises kind of like a fire alarm.

I get all three of them. The one that stands out the most is touch though. Most of the time it feels like something has gotten into the bed like a dog....and it starts sniffing around my ears. I can feel the bed sink in at different spots before finally getting near my face.

I only recall getting visual because I get them so often, but I'm sure I've gotten sensation/auditory at some point also. Typically, it's visual for me.

In retrospect I should have included more options in that poll...

Yeah, probably. But the both come up as errors under my spell check, and using the O is just a bad habit.

      Yea it's hypNAgogia and hypNOpompia.

You could consider it a hybrid I guess since you can get HH of either form haha

It's even misspelled in the SP definition , although in that case the whole thing should be altered- SP most commonly occurs with hypnopompic, not hypnagogic, hallucinations.

There's another, rarer, type of hypnagogia that's kind of scary.

My mom has what's called hypnagogic phenomena. That means upon awakening, it's not so much based on seeing and hearing things as much, but your mind is in a different place- still in dream logic land. And you don't neccessarily have SP. She one time ran through the house screaming about the gorillas. She ran into my room and wanted to know if I knew where they were... Yeah... That's one type.

I read on Wikipedia that hypnopompia is the state of consciousness leading out of sleep. But what if you enter SP consciously, how can you have hypnopompic hallucinations then? You're not waking up or anything, you're awake and aware all the time.

      Read this
Because SP naturally occurs most often after sleep, when waking up, not before sleep. I was referring to sleep paralysis in general, not our little lonely band of lucid dreamers in the world

And Spock, that is scary as fuck

Oh, Okay. I geuss we should have done more then look up the phrase in our 1992 medical dictionary and call it good... Research pays off, I suppose. 'Hypnopompic Phenomena.' Got it. Thanks.
