      Implanted Memory

I was wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

It seems to me that whenevr i enter a dream, lucid or not, I have a memory implanted from the dream world. For example I've had dreams of the future and I have a memory of events which never occured in the real world.

In dreams I often forget I have a girlfriend in real life and seek comfort in women I would see as good looking if I was single.

Is this common or is there an explanation for this?

Well, I think its common, or at least hear it often on DV, let me try to dig the thread.

Sometimes my dreams, after their finished I seem to remember them as real life memories from the days before.

      Memories

This happens to me often, usually dream characters respond to things I don't know or understand; They often say "don't you remember?" and then I do, weird huh?

As far as forgetting people goes, that gets better with time. The longer you know someone and the more you think about them the further they get buried in your mind. I didn't dream about my girlfriend very much until we had been together for over a year. Know she is present in most of my realistic dreams.

      Hope that helps.

I've had memories specifically for the sake of the dream I'm having, like memory of going to this class that I haven't been to before or even have. Which is used to justify certain actions and logical decision in the specific dream

I have false memories (I believe that's what they're called) in just about every dream. Actually, it happens so often that I can't use the "How did I get here?" mental reality check...I always have a long list of memories for how I got there!

Sometimes the memories only extend far enough back to explain my present situation in the dream, sometimes they go so far back that without close examination I simply assume I've been there all my life and therefore it must be real. But I honestly can't think of a dream where I have no false memory at all.

I had one where I was waiting outside of a restaurant to be seated, and I remembered my last time eating there, but when I woke up I realized I had never been to the place.

I think your brain does this to fill in missing spots. Dreams (in my opinion) evolved as a design to train your body in different settings (social settings, being chased, practicing a skill or sport). To this end, your mind may fill in memories to keep you from questioning the dream and getting off track, etc.

Also, dreams tend to steal from major events in your life, especially recent ones. If you find yourself eating at some restaurant you've never been to, for instance, you may find restaurants and fast food chains are a pretty common source of food for you.

      Definitely had this too

I had a dream with this dresser in it. I didn't recognize as something I own, so I questioned, "Where did I get this from?" I got a flashback of a "memory" of my mother giving it to me

often times in a dream, i will connect the dream with another i may have had months or years ago. i will (not lucid) make connections and then those past dreams become part of my dream memory
      with lucid dreaming in mind,
listen or read to Crazy by Gnarles Barkley
It's amazing how with different viewpoints in mind before hand,
      a song can rally change.

this happens to me almost every night! i've had so many dreams where i see a car or something and remember the day i got it five years ago only in real life that's not and never was my car. or i get into a discussion about a movie i've never seen but have definite memories of it. the most common is remembering events from earlier in the dream that didn't happen, like some person gives me a bag of chips and i remember leaving it at their house earlier in the day when the dream had just started... so weird. implanted memory is what i've always written in my dream journal to specify that it didn't happen in the dream.

I've had things simmilar to this happen to me, but not with memories, but it may have just been memories if I'm not remembering this correctly:

One time I had a dream where I revisited a place that I had dreamed about a few months ago. In the dream I could remember what it was that I had done there in the previous dream as if it had been real life. I think I also revisited the same place a third time in another dream.

Other than that I can't recall a time when I remembered something that never happened. Memories in dreams are probably just fabricated by the mind just like everything else in the dream world.

Edit: that was not a lucid dream, by the way. After reading my post again I thought that sounded like it was, but it was just a normal dream all three times.

This also happens to me frequently. I find that ususally my 'false memories' are taken from previous dreams I have had

I was running my hands over the pattern on a chair in an LD the other night and I said to myself, "When I wake up I'll go downstairs and see if the pattern I see in my dream is the same as the pattern in real life." Interestingly, when I woke up I realised that the LD had occurred in my parents' house (where I don't live) but I do have that chair in my house.

When I'm in non-lucids, I often think that I've dreamed about the events that are happening and that the previous dream was a premonition. I've even said to people in these dreams, "Hey, I had a dream about this - I know what's going to happen next!"
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.
