      False Lucidity - Strange Experiences

      Hi,

I have been trying without success for many months to attain lucidity but recently i have been having really strange experiences. it seems to be like a false awakening only with a Lucid Dream.

What happens is: like a false awakening my dream goes through the motions of doing tasks that it deems are expected of it, I go through my reality checks, I have even taken part in the main task I wish to achieve (flight) and in the place I wish to (New York). It's incredibly weird as it feels real and I appear to have done my checks just not ME conciously.

Anyway sorry for the confusing and slightly meaningless paragraph, I'm just curious, have any of you had similar experiences of "false lucidity"???

EDIT: I've actually just noticed a similar thread a few down, I wouldn't have posted if I had found any others before writing.

That's occurred with me a few times before, too. I'd say things like "am I dreaming?" and do reality checks, but I wouldn't consciously be doing them... It'd just be like I'm in a regular dream.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I didn't mean to be rude, but this term, "false lucidity", has confused hoards of members in the past. There is no such thing as false lucidity.

There is lucid dreams, and there is non-lucids dreams (although some people add another category known as semi-lucid).

A dream about being lucid is no different than any other conceptual non-lucid dream. You perform a task without being in a state of awareness.

Well, what the OP described can occur to people that don't know what really makes lucidity, hence the term.

It's a confusing term that shouldn't be used. Period.

Thinking you're lucid (if you're really not) can be called "false lucidity", they thought they were lucid but they weren't. I won't argue anymore though, you probably know more than I do.

False Lucidity is a term that gets floated around DV from time to time, referring to dreams where the dreamer is not sure if they were truly lucid or not. There is no such thing as a false lucid dream. This is not a term used by any dream researcher, and it often used by dreamers to express frustration at a dream which did not live up to their particular expectations of a lucid dream. To clarify:
You do not have to intentionally induce a lucid dream for it to be lucid. Many lucid dreams are completely spontaneous.
You do not have to be lucid throughout the entire dream for it to be a lucid dream.
You do not have to have ANY control over the dream whatsoever for it to be a lucid dream.
You do not have to be able to think as clearly as you would in your waking life for it to be a lucid dream.

As mentioned before, this thread pops up from time to time and ends in disaster. And on that note. Thread locked.
