Oh no, the secret is out!

I saw this on the front page of yahoo just now.

8 Things You Didn't Know About Dreams

Expect to have like 1000 noobies flooding the forum today. Its a great thing that more people know about lucid dreaming it just might not be as special if everyone knew about it.

Lol. It's really too bad that there's only a tiny part dedicated to "lucid dreaming". And even then, it says it "may" be a real thing instead of actually confirming that it's real.

But if the person reads most of the page, they definitely might look further into it.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

      8. You don’t have to be asleep to dream.

Turns out, you can dream at your desk at work, in the car, even at your kid’s soccer game. Wakeful dreaming—not to be confused with daydreaming—is real and somewhat easy to do, says Dr. Bulkeley; it just involves tapping into your active imagination. The first step is to think about a recent dream you had (preferably a good one!). “Find a quiet contemplative place and bring a dream that you remember back into your waking awareness and let it unfold,” he says. “Let the dream re-energize.” Wakeful dreaming can be used as a relaxation tool, but Dr. Bulkeley says it can also help your mind process a puzzling dream. “It creates a more fluid interaction between unconscious parts of the mind and wakeful parts of the mind,” he says.
Does anyone know anything about this? This is the first time I've heard about it.

When I first read it I had no idea what the article was talking about, but then realized that I do something similar to that. I sort of just lay down without the intention of sleeping and really relax, starting to daydream. But I'm not sure if it's the same thing.

In my opinion it's a self-induced hallucination, not a dream of any kind. It doesn't make any sense to me that you can dream without being asleep.

I wonder if lucid dreaming is starting to get popular. Nah, I guess I'm just paranoid.

Ever hear this one myth about a guy named Steven Lebarge? I don't think it's real though.
"For a long time it gave me nightmares, having to witness an injustice like that. It was a constant reminder of how unfair this world can be, I can still hear them taunting him. 'Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids!'... How come they just couldn't give him some cereal?"

I wouldn't want for the huge masses to know about lucid dreaming. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but if everyone did it, it would be very mundane and everyone would be doing it. I like lucid dreaming at the popularity it's at now: only some people know about it and you know you are getting a benefit most others aren't getting...

Ok well at first i read this thinking about the "I dont want lucid dreaming to be popular" thread then I read about this. I believe that it is possible because one of the most restful nights sleeps Ive ever had I never feel asleep at all but I did dream. No sleeping but there was dreaming. I even posted a thread about it and other people have had the same experience. What we have all said who have experienced it is that it feels like you are in two places at once. You are aware of your dream body and your real body at the same time in different places.
I accept that my reality is always a dream so if something changes I know I'm right.

I strongly agree with Monkey not wanitng people to know... I mean it is a gift or skill that very few peiople posess and being part of the group is pretty amazing. I mean I can say that I have (or am working on getting) a skill that only a handful of people in the world have. It's pretty amazing. I feel a little like I have an edge over people. I guess it is a little selfish but it's a belief that I've had for years, way back when I first found out about LD and when I was still sporting my old username on DV. I'm not sure how long it's been but I can deffinitely say it's been five years at least. And even though about four of those five were me taking a hiatus from LD, I still didn't want people to know.

It's something that is out of the ordinary and sets you apart.

      Yay!!

I just don't understand how people want everyone to know. It may be a little far out, but it would almost be like all of us here at dreamviews would lose our identity as a community of individuals. I'm not sure if I used the right words there, but that's another point.

I can't say I'm worried about there being a huge rise in LD popularity. Most people don't seem to remember--or for that matter, appreciate--dreams, and the amount of dedication it takes to both recall and control dreams would seem immense to most people.

On another note, I think DV'ers are, by nature, a step ahead of the people around them. Lucid dreamers are not passive people. We have determination and willpower, and LDs or not, these characteristics are the things that get us ahead in life. I think LD'ing is an excellent use of these resources and may have extra benefits, but the people that take the time to work on lucidity are people that are already moving up in life.

I know if this place ever gets flooded with people we should just migrate to an alternate site that you have to meet some kind of requirement to get into (but not too dificult if it involves dreaming because I very rarely have LDs). People who meet that requirement should get a PM with a link or something to the new more dedicated site.

I cannot agree more on that! I feel as if I am ahead of my peers (high school) and their talks and a lot of the things they are interested bores me, whereas this stuff is interesting tome

I wouldn't mind more people knowing about Lucid Dreaming, since it would mean more people working to develop awesome techniques to have them more often and make them last longer.

However, whenever I try to tell someone about it in real life, I get the same look I would get if I told them I was abducted by aliens over the weekend. I've stopped telling people about it, except for people who I'm really close to.
