Do YOU feel pain in dreams?

Hey guys so last night I had a cool experience in a dream.

I was swimming in a pool outside a nice sized house in the middle of nowhere. The surround area was quite forestry and isolated. The pool was down a slope led there by a path surrounded by bushland. So anyway I was swimming with my brother just joking around and having fun when I spot a snake right next to the pool. I was real scared so I decide to hop out of the pool, my brother does the same. I start to pace back up to the house making sure I totally avoid the snake but then dozens more snakes appear around the bushland. They look a lot like rattlesnakes but I couldn't hear any rattles. Anyway while we are running away from the snakes I get bit on the ankle, my brother gets bit too and we keep running. Snakes are appearing everywhere and lunging their bodies at us trying to strike us. Near the house I get bit again.

Now, the purpose of this story is the fact that when I got bitten I felt a sharp pain in my ankle. I could feel the venom taking over my body. My fingers and hands were going numb and it all felt very very real. How can this be since I have heard some people say do a reality check by pinching yourself because you wont feel it, but in my experiences pain is very real in a dream. Do you guys have any experiences/opinions?

Pinching yourself, as a reality check, tends to perform poorly. Still, the idea that you can't feel pain persists, because pinching yourself is a classic.

Any reality check can fail. Lightswitches can work, and you can read text. Depends on how your brain is wired, and what you're thinking about. Part of the effort in lucid dreaming is finding a reality check that works for you reliably. Another part is to make sure that the mental reality check preceding the concrete reality check is properly exercised (many people omit it during their routine reality checks!).

Some dreams I feel pain, others I don't. Doesn't matter if I'm lucid or not (but, when lucid, I can think the pain away).

Yeah I've learnt this a couple of night ago.. I must really be genuine in nature with my reality checks in real life or else when I'm dreaming I will just discredit any results like I used to while awake. After doing this I have successfully had a DILD with the hand RC. My pinky went nuts extending away like a worm.

I feel pain in my dreams. Most of the time, I like it. I've had dreams where I'd be fighting this really cute woman (kinda like Kate Beckinsale in Underworld) and I'd not even try to harm her, but I'd pretend to attack so I could provoke her even more. I'd end up getting slashed, stabbed, have my wrists broken, etc. and I could feel wrenching pain wherever I was stabbed and the warmth of my blood pouring out of me would be really soothing/sensual.

I once had a dream all about pain. All I could see in the dream was my hand. Than it went all red but still able to see my hand. As the image became red, my first finger hurt like hell and then the red dissapeared and then came back, now my second finger hurt. Than the red went away and back, my third finger hurt. It did the same until my fifhth finger and than its my entire hand that hurted... I woke up...

This wasn't a lucid dream, but I had a dream where I was pushed off (I still have no idea by whom) a waterfall that flowed from a cave. I would feel my stomach drop as I neared the rocks at the bottom, and I felt the hard impact of my head hitting them. But I never felt the pain. It would just repeat: get pushed, fall, head gets smashed. Actually, in a weird way, it was fun.

I normally feel pain unless it's REALLY major, like getting my skull crushed or being in an explosion.
Frankly, I'm glad I don't feel it then.
What if I told you that I am dreaming right now?
That your whole life is a lie?
That the laws of physics as you know them are incorrect?

Furthermore, what would you do if I told you I'm going to wake up as soon as you finish reading my signature?

Yes very much SO MUCH PAIN.

      This week:

      Stung by multiple bees
Some guy with a needle stabbed my foot
Airplane crashed and fire burned me
I got shot multiple times today by people trying to kill me.

The pain normally feels the same but the needle was the worst pain ever. Yeah no fun
if you can read this then you are about to be punched

No, I didn't have to go into the future. I just already knew what you were going to say because I'm a part of your dream.

I had a dream last night, that some doctor wanted to take blood from me. I agreed but was weary to have her stick the needle in my arm. Although I agreed, I was nervous figuring I was going to feel pain..however I did not.

I layed my arm down, she got the needle and quickly inserted it into my arm. I felt the needle go in but I didn't feel any sting of any kind. It was quick, and painless. I was happy. So in my last dream the answer is No. I didn't feel any pain as the needle went in my arm.

I feel pain, both physical and emotional. I also have all of my senses, to what degree depending on the dream.

Golly I feel sorry for all these people who experience pain in dreams! I'm lucky, while occasionally I feel a little bit of pain it is only ever very slight. I once got stabbed in the eye with a letter opener in a dream but didn't feel a thing, and I like it that way

I do feel pain a lot of times in dreams when I'm injured. I'm sure there are more than a few times I've been injured in a dream that I didn't feel anything, but no reason to remember those. Every once in a while, in a really dramatic dream, I'll have a flash of null sense, lose all sensation except for sight and sometimes sound while the pain is inflicted, then the rest of the time I'm hurting I just feel it as a sort of throbbing lack of feeling. Like how numbness is no feeling, this would be anti-feeling.

But yeah. I can feel pain in dreams.

I very rarely feel pain in dreams.

But I remember one dream where I was clawed by a tiger cub in my thigh, damn that hurt.

I think my mind was able to simulate that sensatation so well because im scratched or clawed by my cat many times a week, when we play he sometimes miss the toy and hit me.

Everything require your attention to exist, including pain. The more you focus on it, the more you feel.

If there is something else in the dream to distract you from the pain (or in RL, works the same way), you don't feel anything.

hmm haven't felt any pain thus far- wonder what it would be like to be decapitated with a chainsaw with pain turned on, only to wake up and find yourself un-decapitated again, hopefully will find out in a while...

I love dreams where I can feel pain. Pain adds so much to the dreaming experience, it's like riding a roller coaster.

In lucid dreams I can make the pain go away. I had a guy chainsawing me in the stomach while I was laughing at him.

The worst kind of dream pain is stab pain with a knife that's really really uncomfortable yet very exiting. Bullet shots are fine I usually play dead after I get shot.

I had a dream where someone put a huge needle in my back and sucked my internal organs the feeling was very strong and woke me up.

I love explosions I love the rush of getting shred apart by a nuclear explosion or a grenade and then waking up in a white dream room with muslim scientists.

Oh and car crashes they are fun too in dreams, not painful just exiting.

Falling is such a rush too. The feeling of falling is more uncomfortable than hitting the ground though I just land on my feet and keep running.

      I AM IMMORTAL!

I've only felt pain in a dream on one ocassion. I was running from one of the black-coated men from The Matrix. I ran up a wall, fell over, and he shot me in the top of the head. It was like a small, blunt object had hit me softly in the head. I was conscious of blood running down my face, but I couldn't FEEL it.

It was a very interesting experience.
