      Conjuring a Skill in LD's

Let's say I start LDing. Could I pick up a guitar and use active control and believe I'm amazing at it, and start playing like a pro, even though I have no idea how to play a guitar IRL? I know it seems obvious that "YOU are the god of your dreams; if you want something to happen, it will". But I have no idea how to even hold down correct chords with my fingers. I don't have the skill; I don't know HOW to move my fingers in the correct way. Which leads me to think that I won't either in the dream. (I don't know if this is making sense, but it should.)

The same goes for other skills, such as golf, understanding German, doing multi-variable calculus, anything that I myself can't do IRL. Does this mean that there's a limit to what you can do in a LD? Any enlightenment on the subject? By the way, I don't mean "training" in a dream to learn a skill. I mean conjuring a skill in the dream by using active control.

Good question. I'd be willing to suggest that while you'll be able to do these things in LDs and do them right, the process will be wrong. When golfing, your stance may not be right, the German may be gibberish that you appear to comprehend, the calculus may be wrong but the answer is "right." Obviously, one's mind can not attain apply something without knowing about it.

Interesting hypothesis. I have to try doing something I don't know how to do sometime, and see if it's like what you said, ie result right but process wrong.

It does make sense that since a dream is the product of your mind, what your mind doesn't know can't be used in a dream. But what about flying? No one knows HOW to fly or has had practical experience in real life, yet they can do it in a dream. Is it because they're familiar with the CONCEPT of flying, and have seen many images of flying in waking life?

How important is practical experience with skills in regards to lucid dreams? I'm a virgin and am trying to get lucid sex, but I haven't succeeded so far. Even though I know how sex is done, I've never had practical experience. Is lack of experience stopping me, or is sex like flying (ie you don't need experience) and I'm just unlucky?

I've heard sex in lucid dreams is pretty tough to pull off before you try doing that i suggest you give it some research by looking at others tutorials, and experiences(if documented haha) before you attempt something that could end up not as you wanted it to be.

Ah you can easily activate that kind of stuff, that it won't be properly played/done/etc, is another story.

Indeed. I just meant that you can dream that you're playing guitar with skills to rival Hendrix, Santana, and Clapton combined, even without ever having seen anyone actually play a guitar. But that doesn't mean that if a hypothetical expert on guitar-playing observer were to be in your dream and watching you, he would say that you were playing guitar properly (sorry this part was a bit incomprehensible...).

I think with sex, it depends on two things. One, do you know what sex feels like (i.e., have you ever masturbated? Don't answer, that was rhetorical), and two, do you have the proper dream control skills to follow through with it (often inexperienced people get overexcited or stop paying attention when sexy time arrives, and this can lead to lucidity loss or waking up with blue ba- nevermind...)? With the former, if you have sex and don't know how it feels, your assumptions will end up being the thing that determines the experience.

Thanks for the advice! I've actually done quite a lot of reading about LD sex (see how sad I am :\), mostly on here. I've read the tutorial on the DV wiki and also looked through some documented experiences in a few threads on the Lucid Experiences board. I'm aware of what overexcitement, loss of attention and adrenaline can do to the dream, but I'm eager to try and take control of it and see where it goes (lol) because I read that it can be better than the real thing.

And yeah kooky that was comprehensible. I can't wait to try it, but I have a lucid dryspell at the moment. D:
