      Cracked article on lucid dreaming

Thought that some people might enjoy this. It seems to be pretty accurate, but with Cracked's sense of sarcastic humor

Oneironaut posted this on another thread, but this is fine because it deserves its own.

The article was hilarious and I haven't read a cracked article before. I'll paste again my favorite part:

"After having your true desires suppressed by our patriarchal society for so long, and being forced to conform to cruel societal expectations, your new-found ability to freely spin around will overwhelm any other intrusive brain activity. The pure state of ecstatic joy in your brain will be unconquerable. Research has shown that spinning will prolong lucid dreams for 96% of people. It works best to rub your hands together and spin around at the same time. Finally, there's a use for the very actions that got you beat up in high school!"

That article reminded me of just why I used to love reading Cracked, when I was younger.

Alright, now I gotta read this.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Digital Clocks: In dreams, digital clocks make no fucking sense. There are letters in the place of numbers, numerical characters that do not even exist, and more varied clockfuckery. Therefore, a common and effective test is to look at a digital clock and memorize the time, then look away for a second, and then look back at the clock. Did the time go up by one whole second? That obviously means nothing, how could you even begin to think that a single second has any implications at all? But, if the time is significantly different, or if the numbers are now blurry letters, that's a good indication that you're dreaming.
      The best part.

LOL that's so funny. Also when I do reality checks, it seems like a strangely large amount of the time it is exactly when the minute changes. Ex. from 7:59 i look back 8:00 nothing major, but I always check again because I would hate to miss a lucid dream because of that.

      Lmao, that article is hilarious.

While some get into lucid dreaming in order to treat chronic nightmares, or to experience all facets of the human experience, approximately 99.8% of people use it as a tool for cheap and interactive 3D porn.

That was rather interesting, will defiantly pull a bigger audience to lucid dreaming.

Now I've always heard about spinning, and have asked about it, but could never get an answer. Is it physically spinning around? The article makes it seem that way, but for WILD's there's spinning involved, but it's going from external to internal stuff

Also, what does everyone think about the lighting having an effect toward the stability of the dream. I find many of my dreams are either light, or have an overcast look. Not as many are dark (like nighttime)

Is there a thread I can read up on this? I've never heard about it

It's spinning in the dream, not your real body though. Just spin around like your trying to get dizzy.

A few days ago I woke myself up from a LD by looking at the sky. There was a weird pattern in it. It turned out I was looking at the sunlight coming in from my window.

My dreams come in a variety of weathers and times of day. Sometimes very sunny, sometimes stormy, sometimes normal, sometimes completely dark out and sometimes broad daylight. It would be interesting to find out that the time of day has a meaning. That is reveals something about the dream content or reveals you're close to waking up because of lack of clarity or something. A fair number of my dreams take place at night, when it's dark out, with a nighttime atmosphere, but are not necessarily nightmarish. I make sure to record whether it's day/night in my dream journal when it happens.

^ I do the same thing most of the time... if it's something worth noting. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't

Ok. I'll have to remember that for my next lucid. I need to get more into RC's

I have never found spinning to be an effective way of stabilizing the dream. For me, it's more of a better way to change the dream scene. Looking at my hands has always been the best way for me to make the dream more clear, and last longer.

I find spinning really useful, maybe just because I believe it will work, and it gives me something to focus on to ground me in the dream.
Verbally commanding "clarity" and "lucidity" also works for me.

In their other article 5 ways to hack your brain into awesomeness: "For instance you've probably fallen asleep watching MythBusters before and immediately dreamed you were flying through the air, using a giant version of Jamie's mustache as a hang glider."

Same, I use it when I'm losing control to enter a new dream.

Yelling "stability" works really well, but I never think to do it. Will do that tonight.

Dream electricians are generally pissed off and feeling lazy, so light levels rarely change suddenly in dreams as a result of flipping a switch.
