Thread: Academy Drawings

Hah! Don't worry, man. If I was going to use BitTorrent to download it, I would have already. I like to reward good work, though, so I pay for stuff if I can.
Plus, I'm quite good at spending my dad's money.

Woah there, Sketchup is a pretty badass piece of software, and is used by a ton of people professionally for mockups.

BUT I guess if you want to be really serious, you can get something better.

I agree with what Nomad said a while back, the drawings seem unfinished. I would work on making the drawings something recognizeable, so that one could easily tell what they're looking at, and then be able to remember it when theyre dreaming.

Yeah, that would be nice, but I'm a lousy drawer. I'm a great designer, so whatever I can do with a pencil, straight edge, and compass will turn out alright, but a 'Picture'... eh. The closest I get to that is the top-down view of it with all the shading.
Also on that, the texture of the Academy walls is the same everywhere. Walls, peaks, pillars, the rings- all the same sort of stone-or-stucco finish. The exception is the doors.

On a different note, I have scans and will be uploading them when I'm not here at home (dial-up), and....

I'm not sure if you still want to do this 3D model, but if you do I'm just letting you know i've worked with autocad, some sort of house making program (my house was pimp), and a google design thingy

Okay, as I was going to do a week ago...

This one is from a corner-view, and I had to stretch it because my rotational math (which I did completely in my head) was, though correct proportionally, did not scale x and y axis measurements properly. So the grid looks weird

I drew the Academy from the left side (left from the front), and tried, and failed X( to get the top to look right.

It needs notation, but I'll say as much as that the first floor is classrooms, the second is a classroom, the third is a bunch of rooms for storage and the fourth is a ballroom, the fifth is currently not mapped to be anything, the sixth is an observance floor, and above that is the top dome/peak, which is hollow.
Big problem: all the floors in the first (lowest) section are too tall. And so, I vainly try to correct it, but

It fails. And I fail. And I really need to re-design the alignment of floors, 'cause I'm sure as high water not going to design against the pictures in my head. No, I WILL NOT CONCEDE TO A COMPROMISE ON MY WORK!

Question: How wide is this building? because from these pictures I've been viewing a pretty narrow tall building.

Ah, now that I can tell you. And, since you've asked a question (bless your heart!), I'll just start rambling, 'cause I'm good at it.
The general scale is five feet per side per square, or, for the larger renderings, two-point-five feet per side per square.
The Academy, or at least this version, is sixty feet wide and sixty feet long/deep, and is one hundred feet tall to the top floor, as well as to the top of the rings on the pillars.
As the top isn't the clearest, the top floor might be at ninety or ninety-five feet. Either way, there is some sort of small, roofless four-arch.... ummm..... THING on top. Not quite a room in itself, yet something. Another design (which I want to use, since it's what I see in my head) has some sort of square radio-tower-like thing coming out the top, so I might just jettison the four-arch thing.
The tower, however, conflicts with a concept I thought of and really like: In the middle of the Academy, starting at the top of the Great Hall, is a five-by-five-foot passage going straight up through the whole height of the Academy. That's why the four-arch wouldn't have a roof, and why the tower isn't such a great idea to me all of the sudden.

It's just a thread about the monolithic Academy I'm drawing for a project of mine. Project:Enhasa.

I'm really starting to like the large, second-floor classroom in this drawing, and I'm not totally sure why.

Also, for the first time I was able to mentally walk around the Academy as extensively as I have planned it out. I was even able to walk around the grounds and visit the other buildings. The sparing ring, the wall-phasing cone, the teleporter, and the rail barn. I walked up and down stone road to the Academy and tried to count how many pillars there were along it, but I wasn't able to pinpoint the number. It was around twelve.
And I was awake for all this?


Oh, yeah... I drew the teleporter and the rail barn and phasing cone. The teleporter I'll post, but the rail barn's drawing was really sketchy, so I'm going to re-draw that, and the wall-phasing cone is so simple that I'll just 3-D render it someday.

Just remember, there are more arenas than this one.

Would it be able to expand/contract based on size?

Well, technically, you don't need it to.
The whole Academy is relative in size to the people in it, but only with one's dreams. The sparring ring is similar, but I like to think that, before going there, you imagine which one you want to fight on and that's the one there. So far the sizes are:
10-foot
20-foot
30-foot
30-foot, short
50-foot, short

"Short" means that the pillars are about three-and-a-half to four feet tall, including the ring on top. Otherwise they are ten to twenty feet tall.

This is freaking awesome so just to get it straight the sparring arenas are bigger than that right because from my point of view it looks small
