Thread: Academy Drawings

The parts on the sides of the rooms are counters. On the first, they're (obviously) straight, while the ones on the second drawing are the curved lines following the outside wall.
I'm still a bit biased toward the second design, mainly because it is, like I said, more like what I see in my head.

Okay, so I got the side view of the Academy finished at long last. Well, done in a relative way. The top still doesn't look quite right, and I'm sure of that, because I have a very clear mental picture of the top from the perspective of looking over to it from a place standing on the outer ring.
Also, this is still the view of the second size of Academy, that is, one size smaller than what's in my head, so I'm not going to be too nitpickety about it. wink2

Oh, um. About that. If I was rushing, the whole thing would be drawn, 3D-modeled, and I'd be in the process of making a 1/4-scale version of it.
As it is.... I draw when I both want to (a lot) AND can situationaly (not so often).
But never mind my outburst. How's the side view look?

I hope the next installment is just as epic in your eyes as the last. It's a top-down view, NOT a blueprint, with shading and all. I just got it done last night. Took an hour and a half.

I really love the look of the schematics at the moment! It's great to have some sort of idea that I can run off when I'm trying to get there, I'm sure even just glancing at these drawings will fuel the subconcious and allow the dreamer to fill in the details

PXUmais, yes, soon. (I think).
Last night I drew up a corner-view of the Academy. Took an abominably long time because I was doing all the distance-compression math in my head as I went, and there was a certain curve that was just not looking right. Or left. Heck if I know at this hour.
I don't have that drawing scanned in yet, and, when I do scan it in, I'll have to edit it because I compressed the x axis to make the math easy on me, but I forgot to compress the z axis. (Z is height. I refer to the drawings in 3-D terms)
Because of this, the Academy is proportionally taller than it should be in this drawing, making it look less like an Academy and more like a monolith. (did I use that word correctly?)

Anyways.... back to PXUmais' request.

I'm drawing a cut-away, side-view of the Academy from a front-side perspective.
After that, I'll be doing the Coupe de Grace, that is, a level-by-level floor plan of the academy. All 100+ feet of it.
And now, I really must get some sleep. So, if any of you see me out there tonight... wave!

Actually, PXUmais, I'm thinking that the Academy is pretty complex to 3D-render unless it's in your own head. Heck, I'm having trouble getting the dimensions to work and line up and all that [censored]. Eh. What do I know? Maybe it'd be better to have a team of rendering workers doing a level each and have me compile it and get fix the inaccuracies. Hmm.... I like that idea. Wait. No I don't. (I hate internet-shared projects!) Or do I like that idea?
AACK! I DON'T KNOW IF I LIKE IT OR NOT!

Either way, back to the drawing board.

I'm making SOME progress for my personal 3D model, but TBH it ain't much and I prolly ain't gonna get far.

If we want to do this thing properly, we'll have to find a professional 3D renderer/maker/thingamabob or at least some one with experience who is willing to do it for free.

Anyone know anybody?

I know this is probably a lot to ask but, for now can we get some more sketches to help imagine the insides a little more Signet. pl0x

I'm workin' on it. The levels aren't all 'on-a-level', and the room I'm clarifying in my mind just HAPPENS to be rather complex. (GEE, I wonder how the heck that happened? Level-by-level is going to take a while, but, have patience; I'll get it done and posted in due time.
Also, last night I drew a side-view from the side (not the front, like last time), and I drew a different top on it, and (NO I DON'T HAVE IT SCANNED [ Me-> <-you] ) I'll ask which is better when it's up.
Really, I don't think I/we/the Academy needs professional help, it just needs some time so that I/you/we can learn to render.

Oh, yeah, on a side note, a good friend of mine says that I should talk to him in 10 or 15 years about building a real-life version of the Academy. He says it'll be a good use of his $200,000-per-year salary that he's going to be making as a dentist.

I dunno man, even after any one of us LEARNS to 3D model, it would be really useful to get an experienced modeller to really create one that's extensively designed/modelled. Plus it would take some time to really learn how to 3D Model. (If you know what I mean? No, maybe, yes? )

Anyhow, do what you wish. I just want to be able to really imagine it, xP
