I would think you go through the motions too much. You might do R.C.s all day every day, but if you don't question reality at that point and ponder a bit on them, then they will never work.

If you do do that, then I would say you just had an off night. People get them, it just happens. Try again tonight, I'd say it would work, I doubt it would happen twice in a row.

Origami is right. I'd say you just have to work on being a bit more aware of your surroundings, and question whether you're dreaming more genuinely. If you do this and are in a similar situation where the RC fails, you'll be aware enough to think, "wait, but I'm positive I'm in a dream right now. I'd better do another RC before shrugging this off."

Saying that, the finger-through-palm RC has a lower success rate than the nose-plug RC. I always make sure to try breathing through my nose during my RCing sessions.

      You're close, keep it up!

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I agree with puffin. Try out some other RCs and find which ones work best for you. Looking at your hands doesn't work for everyone. When I look at my hands in dreams they look normal and sometimes hyper realistic.

Oh man if that happens to me I'd be really pissed the next morning...! I do the nose plug check though. But never tried it in a dream yet. Keep it up wurlman, you are already aware!

Yeah, I gotta agree with what everybody is saying... I had an LD once where both the fingerpalm and looking at my hands failed miserably, but then I did a nosepinch and could breathe perfectly well. That's the one that got me fully lucid. It should probably be your main RC.

The nose plug RC is best. I have extremely realistic dreams and usually all other RC's fail but the nose plug. Also as a final RC I generally try to change something simple about the dreamscape, such as the colour of the wall ahead of me. Good luck!

I think the reason the nosepinch RC always works is because you're actually breathing all the time, even though your dream body is pinching your dream nose shut. Similarly, I've had many dreams of being trapped underwater, afraid I was drowning, but always found I could breathe perfectly well. I do remember once not being able to breathe in a dream though I suspect it was an episode of Sleep Apnea, where you actually do stop breathing briefly while asleep. So the only way for a nosepinch to really fail is if you happen to get SA just as you're doing it!

Nosepinch didn't work for me in a dream, I questioned everything around me to make sure and became lucid.
If you use RC's and expect them not to work, then chances are they won't.

Ok fair enough... I shouldn't have said "the reason nosepinch RC's always work... "

It should have been the reason they tend to work very consistently...

(at least for a majority of people, if I understand right?)

Same happened to me before. I said to my dad and a group of people in my dream "I think I'm dreaming, I'm just going to check" (!) I went outside the house and tried to jump to fly but nothing happened, so I came back and said "guess not" and just got on with my non lucid dream!

Best advice as above - put more love and feeling into your reality checks and actually breathe, look around and notice things - don't just repeat it without thinking in your head or you'll do the same thing in a dream.

Finger checks normally work for me, pretty much always have 6 fingers but havn't a couple of times.
Nose pinch has never failed and is now my RC of choice.
