Question How good is a lucid dream?

I think ive had one before now. I woke up in the morning and fell back asleep, only i sort of knew i was dreaming and got up and flew. It wasnt very vivid, and didnt feel much like I was flying at all.

It was stupid and I felt that all this time learning if I was lucid was a waste of time.

SO! How great are lucids supposed to be? are they really worth it?
I was hoping that it would feel super real and the most amazing experience ive ever had in my life.

Lucids can easily be ranked as the best experiences of my life, sleep paralysis a close second.
All five senses are there, but are imagined and thus not physically bound. You're not hindered by your poor eyesight or hearing damage. In fact, you can see in greater clarity than 1080p. You can have the smell of a shark, and feel muscle contractions as if you had just had a nice workout (without the ache) and hear everything.

A personal experience is my FIRST lucid where I teleported and instantly smelled the salt from the ocean, heard the waves and seagulls, saw clear perfect water and every grain of sain, and felt my skin and muscles as never in waking life.

Once I was able to ride tamed beasts and use magic... oh boy.

When enough attention and effort is put forth, the vividness and the MEMORY is just as much a memory as a real one, and doesn't have that dreamlike memory haze. While I say going to Jamaica and diving was a better memory than Lucid Dreaming about it, I know that the experience at the time was even better, just the memory is SLIGHTLY below. I do have some dreams that have memories well above that of any physical encounter.

When you have a vivid lucid you will realize it is one of the most amazing experiences you will ever have, it is completely worth it.

Words can hardly describe the sensation of lucidity and the euphoria you get from the experience. I encourage you strongly to stick with it until you have a true lucid, because once you do, you will be hooked!

Are you keeping a regular dream journal? That's a big part of LDing.

jarrhead, speaking of "clearer than 1080p", last night I had a semi-lucid where I was looking at an incredibly sharp flower. Crystal clear.

I turned my attention towards the daisies. I picked one up; it didn't put up a fight and resist being pulled up from the soil at all, as if it was just floating in air. As I brought it towards my face and looked at it closely, I realized that the white petals now had a huge amount of tiny, pint-sized holes in them; these holes were more abundant towards the outer regions of the petal, and a few of these petals looked like they were eaten a bit around the edges. I saw the slight bending of the petals as they connected to the center, which now looked like the middle of a sunflower with all the seeds, except this was a solid yellow. The amount of detail was stunning; I'd never seen details as crystal clear and sharp before, regardless of the fact that I was only semi-lucid. The flower was so sharp, in fact, one could easily have thought there was aliasing around the edges. My gaze was fixed on this flower for a good minute or so, just observing all the details.
OP, I totally second the notion that dreams can be amazingly clear, even more so lucids. But there's also all the fun stuff you can do.

      Fall from buildings.
      Fly.
      Fight.
      Flip a car.
Heck, even drive a car faster than 300 km/h if you want. That's always fun!

It's hard to judge how amazing lucids can be at first, but judging from the fact that you've already had a lucid, all you need to work on is awareness and recall (I'm guessing the low vividness of the dream just stemmed from less-than-adequate recall). Lucids are best remembered when you can remember your regular dreams too, as both lucids and non-lucids are formed by the same type of dream memory. Every once in a while, along with keeping a dream journal, take the time to observe everything around you - what things feel like, smell like, and such.

The more you work on awareness and recall, the better your lucid experiences will be as a whole. That, along with dedication and having the right mindset - confidence is half the battle, so don't have doubts.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I also would say that lucid dreams are probably the best experience in my life. The can be so extremly real, infact they can feel even more than real life some times. Anything is posible so you can do pretty much what ever you want with a little practice. The only limitation is yourself. I suggest you come up with a list of goals and fun things you would like to do that way when you get your next lucid you will know what to do.

I find the best method is a sprial notebook with a pencil inside the rings...

WRITE ON THE LINES NEATLY. don't worry if it "wakes you up."

WHile I don't have access to such right now, I wish I did. I wrote on my phone. Less than ideal. If i handwrite it I can't read it when i wake up.

I use the "goals" feature of Banhurt's Dream Journal for this. Inspire helped me on two goals, where as reading DV and talking to people and browsing web fuels the rest.

Here's some inspiration. I don't believe in any paranormal dreaming but just dreaming of it (essentially it's the same as if it were real) is epic so don't get the idea I'm a paranormal guy.

      • Attempt synchronicity from dream-state into waking world (keyword attempt. I don't believe in this. See if I have the control to remember and convey and intention to another DC)
      • Explore Pandora's Nightlife
      • Fight & Win as the hero in a modern-military battle (Be it USCG, USAF, Army, USMC, Navy)
      • Find a Dream Walker
      • Find a Night Stalker
      • Find alicexdoll (my old student I mentored that hasn't touched these boards in almost a year and a half. Kinda miss her. Lol
      • Go diving in Jamaica (I did this twice with scuba gear and twice free diving. Whichever comes naturally in dream)
      • Have a non-sexual "I'm the protector" romance
      • Learn self-defense against energy bodies
      • Open the Akashic Records
      • Take Fast-Type headcrabs in hand-to-hand combat (I've done this non-lucid, was EPIC. Grab em by the claws when they jump and slam to ground.)

They are some of the best experiences I've ever had.
Had I never had one I would of thought they were to good to be true.
The first time I managed to fly though I was a little underwhelmed as I didn't get the sensation I thought I would (I was flying slowly though) but after getting the hang of it and getting some speed it feels just as I hoped and seems very real.
A lot of the time I have to RC everytime I jump out a window or off something very high to make sure it really is a dream.

If you only have the skills to do so you can experience anything you can imagine as real.
