      Could a mantra handle this?

Hey guys, I have already expierenced the power of mantras. Once I used this mantra: "I will wake up after my first dream" and in my first attempt, I woke up directly after a dream at 4:00. That was amazing.

Tonight I want to try this mantra:
"I will wake up in 5 hours"

Do you think this will work? Waking up at 5:00 would really increase my chances of having an LD, however if mantras are not powerful enough to make me wake up in a specific amount of time, I could use some ordinary mantra like
"I will have a lucid dream"
"I will do a reality check"
      etc.
      etc.
      etc.

So, what are your thoughts on this?

      EDIT:
To avoid posting multiple threads, I wanted to ask this little question about WILD:
Is focusing on my breathing good idea to push my mind away from daily thoughts? Will loud breathing through my mouth not affect WILD negatively? I mean won't it make SP harder to achieve etc.?

5 Hours seems terribly precise don't ya think. How would your mind discern whether seconds, minutes or hours had passed, I don't think our internal clocks are that precise, are they?

But then again, I personally, have little experience in the topic.

Keep us updated on your attempt!

Our subconscious doesn't work in numbers. It wouldn't be able to interperate what that means I don't think. I think you should stick to lucid dreaming related things, and remember to visualise it because our mind works in images

I think I will attempt using this mantra:
"I will wake up after my dream"

And fall asleep with this mantra. Upon a deeper thought with that 5 hour mantra, I think it's not really possible, as you said, I don't think our internal clocks are that precise. I'll report how this goes tommorrow.

Yeah. However, I still think you're "first dream" mantra is really interesting. If you get consistent results, then it might actually be useful.

      Good luck!

I think a mantra that says you'd wake up after 6 hours would be way more effective than saying at 6.00 AM. I bet it's easier for the body to recognise how long it's been asleep for, and when cycles end, than it is for it to recognise which time it is. Use a mantra which will wake you up after 4½ hours or 6. This is usually around the time your 3rd and 4th dream cycle has ended or is about to end and you're in REM.

Although you always wake up when they do, it's just a matter of remembering them, so the intent should be enough

I might try to use that mantra that you mentioned "I will wake up after my dream" in order to WBTB.

Well this night I have used this mantra:
"I will wake up after my dream"

and guess what... Woke up at 3:52! Please note that I never ever wake up at night. And I mean it. I always sleep from 10 to 12 hours, unless someone wakes me. That is amazing.. It only proves that my first attempt few months ago was not a coincidence.

I will try the mantra Matte87 offered this night and post results

Yes they are. Sometimes I've gone without alarm clocks and I had to wake up at like 6:40, and by keeping my mind focused on when I had to get up, I consistenly woke up at that time +/- 10 minutes. This was before I got into lucid dreaming. I found it helped if you kept the blinds/shades open, the sunlight probably helps you tell time.

Hmm, food for thought. I've never heard of our internal clocks being able to recognise actual units of time, but I guess it would still be a rather interesting experiment.

You know how light it is at 6:40 right? Even if you don't your subconscious probably does. That's a possible link.

Ever wake up mere minutes before your alarm goes off? It happened to me a lot when I had a set time to get up at every day.

Even my brother was recently telling me that he keeps waking up after six hours automatically because he's slept for six hours the last few weeks.

My minds loves to just mess with me. If I set an alarm I will ALWAYS wake up about 60 seconds before it goes off. Doesn't matter when I set it. My mind just likes to troll me.

My mind likes to troll me like that too. I remember often waking up just seconds before the alarm goes off. Just enough time to open my eyes, look at the time, and register it in my brain before it rolls over to 7:00 or whatever and starts ringing annoyingly, making me leap out of bed.

When I'm working, I can tell if my alarm hasn't gone off within 15 minutes from the time it should have. I feel something's not right and wake up. Usually If you're used to waking up at the exact same time, and after a certain amount of sleep, your body will get ready to wake up automaticly, even if you don't have to say on weekends.

Then it's probably not due to it ACTUALLY recognising UNITS of time. Rather, it is likely due to it recognising various other aspects/variables and causing you to consequently wake up; in a way making it artificially precise, in terms of time anyway.

I think it's safe to assume that you can become accustomed to waking up at a certain time as well, probably explaining the numerous times where we wake up right before an alarm goes off.

Guys.. Last night I fell asleep with this mantra in my head: "I will wake up in 6 hours". I went to sleep at 0:10 woke up at 5:52. This is damn unbelievable! If you want to wake up for WBTB without alarm clock, use this mantra!

yeah it should totally work. using a mnemonic technique, or mantra or whatever you want to call it has always been the most successful lucid dreaming technique for me. combined with meditation and just general awareness it should work. although i don't see the point in wanting to wake up in 6 hours so you can have a lucid dream. how does this increase your chances? after 4 or 5 hours of sleep you start having REM cycles, but why do you want to wake up right before they start happening?

here a mantra is being used as a mnemonic device in order to plant an idea into your unconscious mind in order to do something that can't be controlled (easily) by your conscious mind. such as having a lucid dream or waking up at a specific time.

so in order to do a "mantra correctly" you would repeat the phrase to yourself over and over again before you fall asleep. a common one would be "i am lucid dreaming" "i will have a lucid dream" or "i lucid dream".

WBTB Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

Because REM cycles get longer and more vivid as the night goes on, this takes advantage of the longer ones by injecting the thought of lucid dreaming into the brain right before a long dream, increasing the chances that thoughts of lucidity will come out in the dream. .

oh i suppose i've been doing that for a long time and never really knew it was called a WBTB. i tend to wake up in the middle of the night after about 4 or 5 hours of sleep then go back to sleep and start having more vivid/lucid dreams.

i never really looked very far into WBTB because i think the name sounds silly.

I have to disagree, I can wake myself at around any time by saying "I will wake up at ___ A.M.", or variants of that. First time I said "I will wake up at 3:00 A.M. tomorrow" and I wake up, look at the clock, and it says 3:04, or something like that. So at least for me it works pretty well.

Why would you say that it works in words and not numbers? Numbers are the same as words. Numbers can BE words.
