5 Hours seems terribly precise don't ya think. How would your mind discern whether seconds, minutes or hours had passed, I don't think our internal clocks are that precise, are they? |

Hey guys, I have already expierenced the power of mantras. Once I used this mantra: "I will wake up after my first dream" and in my first attempt, I woke up directly after a dream at 4:00. That was amazing. |

Our subconscious doesn't work in numbers. It wouldn't be able to interperate what that means I don't think. I think you should stick to lucid dreaming related things, and remember to visualise it because our mind works in images |

I think I will attempt using this mantra: |

I think a mantra that says you'd wake up after 6 hours would be way more effective than saying at 6.00 AM. I bet it's easier for the body to recognise how long it's been asleep for, and when cycles end, than it is for it to recognise which time it is. Use a mantra which will wake you up after 4½ hours or 6. This is usually around the time your 3rd and 4th dream cycle has ended or is about to end and you're in REM. |

I might try to use that mantra that you mentioned "I will wake up after my dream" in order to WBTB. |

Yes they are. Sometimes I've gone without alarm clocks and I had to wake up at like 6:40, and by keeping my mind focused on when I had to get up, I consistenly woke up at that time +/- 10 minutes. This was before I got into lucid dreaming. I found it helped if you kept the blinds/shades open, the sunlight probably helps you tell time. |
|
You know how light it is at 6:40 right? Even if you don't your subconscious probably does. That's a possible link. |
|
My minds loves to just mess with me. If I set an alarm I will ALWAYS wake up about 60 seconds before it goes off. Doesn't matter when I set it. My mind just likes to troll me. |
|
My mind likes to troll me like that too. I remember often waking up just seconds before the alarm goes off. Just enough time to open my eyes, look at the time, and register it in my brain before it rolls over to 7:00 or whatever and starts ringing annoyingly, making me leap out of bed. |
|
When I'm working, I can tell if my alarm hasn't gone off within 15 minutes from the time it should have. I feel something's not right and wake up. Usually |

Then it's probably not due to it ACTUALLY recognising UNITS of time. Rather, it is likely due to it recognising various other aspects/variables and causing you to consequently wake up; in a way making it artificially precise, in terms of time anyway. |

Guys.. Last night I fell asleep with this mantra in my head: "I will wake up in 6 hours". I went to sleep at 0:10 woke up at 5:52. This is damn unbelievable! If you want to wake up for WBTB without alarm clock, use this mantra! |

Sometimes the little things you didn't think your mind could do are really cool. |
|
yeah it should totally work. using a mnemonic technique, or mantra or whatever you want to call it has always been the most successful lucid dreaming technique for me. combined with meditation and just general awareness it should work. although i don't see the point in wanting to wake up in 6 hours so you can have a lucid dream. how does this increase your chances? after 4 or 5 hours of sleep you start having REM cycles, but why do you want to wake up right before they start happening? |
|
How do you do mantra's correctly? |

here a mantra is being used as a mnemonic device in order to plant an idea into your unconscious mind in order to do something that can't be controlled (easily) by your conscious mind. such as having a lucid dream or waking up at a specific time. |

oh i suppose i've been doing that for a long time and never really knew it was called a WBTB. i tend to wake up in the middle of the night after about 4 or 5 hours of sleep then go back to sleep and start having more vivid/lucid dreams. |
|
I have to disagree, I can wake myself at around any time by saying "I will wake up at ___ A.M.", or variants of that. First time I said "I will wake up at 3:00 A.M. tomorrow" and I wake up, look at the clock, and it says 3:04, or something like that. So at least for me it works pretty well. |
