Woke up after doing a reality check in a dream

I had a dream a couple of days ago where I was in a MC-Donalds and I ordered two double cheese burgers and a medium french fry. When the employee gave me the total it was over $40 and I said to myself "Am I dreaming ?" then I immediately woke up. I've been able to remember my dreams almost every night after listening to an mp3 I downloaded from YouTube right before I go to sleep.

Was the reason I woke up because I was exited ?

Yes, you definitely could have woken up from excitement. Another possible cause is that you may have been thinking of your physical body, or the fact that you're actually in bed, focusing too much on the real world. A final possibility is that you were at the end of your REM cycle. As the night goes on, REM cycles become longer, so you have a slightly higher chance of the dream ending earlier in the night.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

It was most likely because I was excited. When I realized that I was in a dream I got excited and woke up from it. I've remembered 12 dreams from July to August. Is this good enough to start practicing techniques ? Also is it good for me to depend on an mp3 to remember my dreams ?

You can start practicing techniques anytime you want, but you should try working towards a recall of at least 1 dream per night; otherwise you might end up forgetting a lucid you might have had. It's happened to me; I became lucid during a recall dryspell and I got brief memories of an LD but couldn't remember much of it.

Mp3s and autosuggestion (MILD) are great for remembering dreams.
