Unhappy School has dropped my LDing streak like a brick.

I have now been back to school for about three-four weeks. And since the first day, my Lucid dreaming (quite predictably) has dropped off like that.

I kind of knew that this sort of thing would happen. In the last week or two of summer, I could Lucid dream almost every other night. In august alone, I had at least 12 lucid dreams.

Virtually every area of my LDing strength has completely vanished. I feel the same way I did when I started on this site, about 6 months ago. My recall is crap. I am lucky to get fragments in the morning. I haven't had ONE real LD since September seventh.

Now I was prepared for this. I did mantra sessions telling myself that school's affect on my lucid dreaming would be minimal. I have been doing mantra sessions before bed, and while I am falling asleep, as well as poking around with entering sleep paralysis when I go to bed. (A talent I discovered that I had toward the end of august)

I thought that school would, from the start impact my LDing negatively, but I kind of figured I would have had a couple LDs by now, and be getting used to the new routine.

-Really I can see a moderate amount of stress from school. Not a lot, but some.

      -I am getting up earlier.

Beforehand, I was primarily a MILDer. I would do some mantra sessions, an RC here or there. I was also doing mantra sessions related to dream control, but that's rather unrelated. But I mostly have been relying on just knowing that I will have a lucid dream. (as my mantra implies) Same story with recall, that I have also mentioned has gotten a lot worse. Back in the spring, when I was still in school, my recall was as good as It was over summer break. I was mostly just relying on remembering my dreams.

So I've rambled on long enough. If you can help, please do, and thank you for your time.

PS. My friends list is empty. If anyone wants to add me, go ahead.

Well, if your getting up earlier, that's probably the matter. It may have thrown your biological clock. Stress can also play a roll in many things including LD's.

Not uber informative, but I'm an uber noob

I've struggled with the same problem! In August of 2004, I had over 30 lucid dreams, practically at will, some with multiple episodes.

Then college started.... BAM... Back to 1-3 lucids per month, which killed my motivation to practice, so I slipped back to almost nothing and crappy recall!

I've been trying to solve that puzzle ever since.

      There are a few theories:
      1) Diet. At home I was eating a good diet of cold cut meat, fruits and vegetables (ham, all kinds of fruits, home cooked meals). At college I was eating heavier diet, which was random from day to day.

2)Supplements. In August I was taking a consistent set of supplements: 5-HTP, Melatonin and vitamin B6 on some occasions. In college, the intake stopped or became sporadic.

      3) Practice. I stopped. Before I could practically "at will" induce lucid dreams just about every day. I spent a lot of time thinking/talking about them and went to bed with absolute certainty that will happen.

4)Techniques. I heavily relied on Non-Induction (unshakable confidence) and Dream reentry/DEILD to get lucids. I could not practice them so easily with my roommates awake at odd hours.

5)Cyclical nature of X. According to this theory, August is a power month. It is simply better for lucid dreaming.

Most likely it is a combination of factors. I recently started taking a consistent set of supplements, including 5-HTP and my dream recall improved, even without a dream journal.

If anyone has more input, let's solve this mystery!

I see what you mean. I recently started my first year of high school about 3 weeks ago. Although the affect on my recall and such has been quite minimal, it did still affect it.

I've had the same issue since i started my new job, which was around the same time you started back to school. My recall has been crap and i think i've had 1 ld, but my recall is so bad that i can't remember what it was. I have noticed that on the weekends, my recall is at least a little better because i can sleep much later. Do you record whatever you can in a dream journal? I noticed that when i stopped that, my dream recall stopped as well, which was expected. I'm sure the smaller amount of sleep i'm getting is the biggest factor. I noticed that when i get to bed earlier, i see an improvement. So the best advice i could give would be to make sure you're keeping up a dream journal, even if it is difficult when you have to get up early. Make sure you can get at least 8 hours of sleep too. Those hours towards the end are the most important since that is where your longest, most vivid dreams are. Good luck trying to get back into the swing of things!

      Tell me about it. :/
My dream recall drops dramatically when I have to go to uni, especially if I have to get up early in the morning.
Fortunately, I'm a lucky bastard since I'll be working on my masters thesis soon, which means no uni for 6 months.

Going to bed earlier definitely helps, but with a sleep rhythm as messed up as mine this is really hard to do.
      Dreams are simple.
It's the painfully simple things the human mind cannot comprehend.
After all your mind is trained to understand the complexity of the waking world,
not the simplicity of the dream world.

Saaame here :/ Though I was hardly having a streak before, I haven't even remembered any dreams long enough to write them down in ages. I definitely need to go to bed earlier.

If your recall is suffering, your sleep schedule is probably a little off. Waking up earlier has thrown you off. You are no longer waking up right after a dream. Instead, you are probably waking in some other phase of sleep. Don't rely on the morning for your dreaming. Use a set time in the middle of the night when you know you can predict your sleep cycle. You can use an alarm to wake you, or just rely on the power of your intention. It seems like you have pretty good willpower and prospective memory. You can probably just tell yourself to wake after every dream throughout the night.

Well, If I can re-establish this cycle during the school year, then I'll be like the god of lucid dreams when summer rolls around again.

Also, this thread is scaring me 0_0
I don't have school or a job, but I'm afraid that if I get a job soon my LD amount will drop, and also my recall, which is bad already.
