Unhappy Real World Physics in Lucid Dreams

I've just started getting back into lucid dreaming and I'm using a free course to help me get back into it.

Anyway, sometime early this week, I had two(!) lucid dreams. Though the lucidity didn't last long, it was enough to get me hungry for lucid dreams again.

In one of the dreams though, I flew up and to the ceiling and, though I've found it very easy to pass through walls and ceilings before, I wasn't able to do it this time, no matter how much I said I could, no matter how hard I pushed, no matter how kindly (or angrily) I asked it to let me pass and a DC behind me actually laughed at me for being unable to do something so simple. Eventually, I gave up and went out the front door. I tried to fly but found myself floating back down to the ground again, slowly at first, and then I plummeted and wasn't able to jump higher than a few feet.

Does anyone have any tips for how to get through this or how to avoid it happening again? Am I just hideously out of practice?

Keep trying. Sounds like you are out of practice because walls are penetrable.

One thing that might help is to focus on what will be on the other side of the wall instead of focusing on passing through it. Because focusing on passing through it makes it that much harder (since you are acknowledging the possibility that you might not pass through). If you focus on what could be on the other side of the wall, then moving through it shouldn't give you difficulty (since you have taken your mind off the process altogether).

Its like flying. You KNOW you can fly, regardless of any thoughts you have about gravity. If you got caught in your head about whether gravity exists then flying would be more difficult because you are already assuming that gravity COULD exist the same way as real life. Your expectations will shape your reality in your dream.

      Keep trying!

      Thanks for the encouragement. :3

I think you're right about focusing on the ceiling as opposed to the outside since every other time I've flown out of a building, I'd been more concerned with being outside than I was with actually getting there. I'll keep trying! As for flying, I don't know what happened there. Maybe I was already discouraged about not being able to pass the ceiling and couldn't get up there. I barely remember the dream after all that.

      Thanks again, though!

A DC laughed at you? Ouch.

There are always more than one way to solve a problem. One thing you can do is imagine a door there and then fly through it.

Of course, it sounds like you have better control than me already in your dreams.

Seems to me like you thought about it too much - "dont think you can, know you can."
