      "Forgot" how to Lucid dream?

As a kid, I have always had vivid Lucid Dreams and Astral Travelling experiences on a daily basis. I used to be able to control my dreams.Whenever I had nightmares, I would instantly know that I'm dreaming and find a way to kill myself so I could wake up.

Of course I had no access to the internet then and i had to develop "my own" techniques to lucid dream.

However, it seems I have lost, or forgot how to lucid dream. Every time I become lucid, I will instantly wake up no matter how hard i try. I know there are techniques to stay in a lucid dream longer. Usually I could spend hours in a dream only to wake up and realize 1 minute has passed by.

Has anyone experienced the same thing as me? Have you ever wondered how you, without knowing, controlled your dreams and developed your own way of dealing with them?

Well your mistake was, you killed yourself in your dream. Never do that during a nightmare, learn to control it rather than going the easy way out. Basically when you kill yourself your killing your abilities to control, and your not learning by just doing that. <keep this in mind.

Dont worry, the worst situation possible is that you set up a mental block for yourself, with determination it should be possible.

I have never experienced that, so I don’t have any idea about this. But I guess hathor28 is absolutely right.

      Wut?

      No she isn't.

It's misinformation like this that probably got the OP into the situation to begin with.

First off, killing yourself in an LD doesn't necessarily wake you up, as is evidenced by the many threads on the topic. Secondly, you can't assume past experiences are causing the OP to wake up. There's simply not enough info to go on unless a more detailed account is provided.

It's more likely this is a stabilization issue that's been compounded by an ingrained schema. Easily fixed if the OP balances things well and stops making up counterproductive "rules."
