Unhappy Will Lucid Dreaming Give You Awful Bad Dreams??

      Hey!
I was talking to my big brother about lucid dreaming about a hour ago. He I told him about it and he goes 'don't use the technique where you fool your body your sleeping when your not because one of my friends did that and now she has awful bad dreams every night'
I'm new to all this so I don't know which technique he was talking about. he says that now she is afraid of sleeping because it gives her really vivid nightmares. I was wondering how accurate this is and if it happens often. sorry if this sort of question is asked often. I just want to be careful!

He's referring to WILD and also has no idea what he's talking about. Lucid dreaming won't give you nightmares; if anything, it'll help stop nightmares, since it gives you control over your dreams.

I no longer have bad dreams AT ALL! Not to mention a nightmare. Lucid dreaming gives you less fear of dreaming and better control over every aspect of your mind. I can even keep myself from having those retched dreams where you just keep repeating tediouds tasks from work or school. I have no clue what he could be talking about. I use DILD and WILD and have for decades. I think you have nothing to fear.

Your experience with WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dreams) can also depend on your own expectations, if you start in a fearful manner expecting all sorts of hallucinations it can happen. My advice is to trust yourself and give it a try as it cannot harm you in any way, as everything happens in your own mind. If you succeed you will earn valuable experience and you will be able to create your own technique. Happy dreams !

I agree with the other posters. Personally, lucid dreaming has helped me get over my fears, or if not, made me fear them less. I've confronted many of them over the months that I have been lucid dreaming. Hopefully you can do this too, and turn bad dreams into pleasant ones which you can benefit from

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

I just had an idea. When doing a wild, sing songs in your mind. Maybe all from a certain game or person. I'm gonna do mlp songs.

Ok, not to be negative, but I want to be honest... now that I can LD even my non lucid dreams 'can' be more vivid than before....usually if I am on the brink of awareness. I had one recently where I was stuck in a car, and it started to sink in the mud...the windows were almost fully covered up and I was really scared.... I immediately thought, 'Jesus! I hope this is an LD or I'm gonna die!' I immediately woke up and heart was pounding. BUT... then I thought AWESOME!!!
Felt good to be alive and knowing I was perfectly safe...and I was ready to do it again...like the scary ride at the fair. So, I do NOT want to discourage you. Remember...you dream every night. You just usually forget them. I would never consider stopping LDs. They are incredible and safe. Nothing you are not already experiencing...you just dont recall them, usually. Ignore the fear mongering out there... I am a scardy cat at heart and I love it!

Oh, I want to add, having lucid dreams is also a matter of will. You have to WANT them to have them. If you decide to stop them you can. Difficulty is to HAVE them, not the other way around, so dont worry about trying it.

There's been a few times where I have been having a nightmare and I became lucid and just changed my dream so I wouldn't think so. In my last lucid dream, my step dad was there and he tried murdering me but since I was lucid, I just changed it so I don't think so.

The opposite! Just look around the site and do more research about lucid dreaming. Especially about SP and WILD, which is what he was talking about. Some people have bad experiences with SP but it won't cause bad dreams.

Some people have the ability to plan out their dreams. Before you go to bed come up with a story of what you want your dream to be like. Focus on it and tell yourself that you will have that dream tonight. It might take a few tries but you will eventually get it! Of course, you won't have full awareness or control of that dream unlike with lucid dreaming. You can however plan to become lucid in the dream. People who can do this, can usually achieve lucid dreaming easily.

Well, I finally had a bad dream, probably my brain getting back at me for saying I never have bad dreams. It was no big deal though, just a dream where some one had cut down one of my trees, and I was pissed off about it. But, if that is as bad as they get, no big deal.

Nightmares are very common phenomenon and lucid dreaming provides you with a tangible medium where you can manipulate the source of the fear. For example, I used to be really afraid of lightning and thunder. But when I was lucid dreaming, I realised that I was in full control so I flew up into the storm cloud and witnessed the generation of the lightning itself, right in front of me. I sat in the dense, black cloud until a tiny spark started to form a few metres from me and then there was a huge explosion of light as the forked shape of the lightning appeared. It was such an awe-inspiring sight that I sometimes look forward to stormy weathers in real life now.

In short, make the most out of lucid dreams. Explore, learn and be amazed.
