Point of view (ineffective reality checks)

I dream in 3rd person point of view 95% of the time.
Often I'm not even in my own dreams, and when I am it's like I'm a spectator even though I'm "controlling" myself.
      -sigh-
Does that make any sense? being in control of your body but viewing it as a spectator?
      ...
The point is... reality checks/attaning lucidity is a little difficult because I'm not in first person to begin with.

Could you give me some knowledge/personal experience with this?

Hmm I have never dreamed in third person. But I imagine it's like a game so if I understand it correctly you see yourself from a distance (where the camera is placed in games).

Reality checks are used to test if you are dreaming and if you do something impossible and have enough awareness you should become aware that it is a dream.

So what if you look straight down? Wouldn't you see the top of your head then? Because then you can use that as a reality check. If the third person view works the same way of course.

yes, sounds like dream fuzz to me.
dreams are odd, to say the least, i think its how you remember your dreams.
lots of times in my dreams i have preconceived notion of something.... like i seem to know that my friend got in trouble for hacking, although we never even talk in the dream.

my dreams used to be in 3rd person.... or id just remember them that way. my recall is getting a lot better since ive been on the site and my dreams have improved to a point where they are no longer in 3rd person.

improve your recall, write in a dream journal, and dream on!

I think it is true that dream journalling and working on dream recall will yield more first person. Watching intense drama on tv before bed also makes me dream 3rd person as I play the show or similar over in my dreams. Get lots of sleep if you want to LD. Going to bed really tired squelches LDs.

I agree with others on this thread about good recall reducing the number of 3rd person dreams. They're rare for me now. So rare that seeing myself in a dream recently triggered lucidity for me. I saw myself in a theater. Then I told my self that's not me, I'm me. The other me disappeared and I took control of the dream for a couple of minutes.

If you dream in 3rd person often, it may be useful to tell yourself throughout the day and/or during meditation that if you se yourself, then you are dreaming.
