setting a tone/theme in your dreams

      is this possible?

is it actually possible to make your dreams something along the lines of what you want? I know full dream control is a difficult if not near impossible task but I'm talking about preemptively setting the theme for what you'll dream about, like wanting to dream about say a fantasy environment like a floating island or something.

interested to hear what can be done.

It is dream incubating. You can do it without being lucid. Or you can do a persistent realm Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views - Hyu's Adventures - Dream Journals while lucid.

My non lucid dreams usually have some theme that reflects on what has been on my mind during the day. I imagine that you could set your mind on something during the day and try to go to sleep with that on your mind, but I've never really messed with it.

It normally goes with a movie or video game or book for me unless I incubate.

^ what BrandonBoss said, dream incubation: http://www.dreamviews.com/f45/dream-...torial-130133/

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Complete dream control is not impossible. Granted it takes training and time. I support the idea of dream incubation, but the possiblity is very real for when you reach a high level of skill and control. Even a truely advanced dreamer will have varying levels of control, depending on factors, like sleep stages, and if they bother to fully stabilize.
The entire dream can be erased and recreated. In fact that has been my main form of teleportation for a few years. I simply erase the entire scene and replace it with the new scene. Perhaps that info is of little use, as nothing but years will give years of training. So other than dream incubation, I would suggest making statements out loud in the dream as if you believe them. Such as "It is hard to see that this is a floating island from here, so I will go look over the edge, over there." This kind of passive control through suggestion can acomplish alot. good luck.

I use passive control a lot and try bigger control in steps. I am going to continue this for a long time, so I like how I can look forward to things like that.

If I am lucid and if I want to change the scene into a whole new dreamscape I will fly above the clouds and imagine the new scene, as in your case a floating island, then I'll fly back down and it will be there!

Pretty cool if you ask me hahaha!

Don't know what you wanna dream about, but let's say it's swimming in tropical sea. Just before going to bed, watch some videos on youtube about tropical seas. Pick videos, that will really impress you. That's an important part - have your mind blown by the images. We are most likely dream about things, that left impression on us.

Then as falling asleep, think about those images. Imagine yourself there, swimming, looking at fish, walking on sand, or whatever you desire. Think "Oh, it's so cool to be there". Keep these thoughts untill you fall asleep. It worked for me a few times. Sometimes there is a delay of day or two. Happy dreams
