      Why So Few?

I was wondering, why doesn't everybody lucid dream? Why not? Don't they want to use their brain's true potential? Don't they want to explore what makes them themselves? I have sought an explanation, but I just simply cannot fathom why anyone wouldn't want to lucid dream. Yes, it can be hard, but with about a years practice (at most) you can master it or at least learn enough to actually do it. It seems that the majority of people are misinformed about it. They think that it is this New Age thing, that it is parapsychology or psionics. I don't think they know that it is real. Why do you think we're such a small group?

I think that many people do not even know the concept of lucid dreaming. I bet if you were to take a survey many, many people would not know what lucid dreaming is. You may be correct, people may think lucid dreaming is a new age thing even though it is literally an ancient art!

Sadly, as much as we find it being fun/enlightening experience, many people stay away from things like that, preferring to be so called 'normal' people, and because of that not that many people actually get to know about it as well, at least from what i can guess.
Honestly though i find our group to be not so small, there are much, much smaller groups on internets than that.

That's a great question really, seems most of my family just kinda laugh at the concept. My friends generally seem a little more open to it, but then when I try and actually tell them anything about it or how it works, they want to change the subject. I don't know, I guess I eventually just got to the point that my view was "screw it, they don't know what they are missing". I don't really worry about their opinions on LDs anymore. Not sure how I would react if one of them suddenly was actually interested in learning and was serious about it.

yeah, so true. I've tried to get friends into it, but I don't try anymore.
Both of my parents are convinced that most LDers are psychotic and/or neurotic.
It stems largely from the Arizona shooting.
The media wrongly attacked LDing as the root motive.
They claimed that the perpetrator believed he was dreaming, when in reality LDing is about DISTINGUISHING the two states of consciousness. And the guy clearly had a lot of issues, so you can't blame one small facet of his personality...

And what facts did the news corporations have? That he may have had lucid dreaming as a hobby. Where did they get them? from one YouTube video and his friend that clearly didn't even know what it was. I don't know if anybody else has experienced stereotypes from this exact incident, my parents were a perfect example of the typesetting and stigmatization of a people.

Everybody I know is not interested because they lack the knowledge of what you can achieve through lucid dreaming. For example, when I tried explaining it to my mother she refused to listen to how it could be used for creative thinking and problem solving or even self exploration because I opened up the explanation with the fact that you are in control of your own world. I used to believe that she was a very open-minded individual but due to recent events such as this one, it seems that she finds it hard to accept anything that seems a little bit "Out of the norm".

I get so excited about this stuff and am very let down when someone really important to me doesn't care about it at all. Because I know they have no clue what thy're missing out on.

It's unfortunate. People are just not used to different things. Lol Jabre, sometimes my parents ask if I'm on drugs whenever I relay any exciting nighttime adventures... Lol!!

We all have to sleep anyway, and will spend a great deal of our lives in this state. It's unfortunate people don't want to take advantage of it But there's still all the people that do!!

I hate the mainstream media, doesn't seem to matter what happens they always want to further polarize our society by turning us against each other, whether it be through politics, or causing grief for some group of people just because of the actions of 1 nut case that may or may not have even fit into that group in the first place. Its usually just a bunch of ignorance about violence. I'll get my news from a source less concerned with ratings and then form my own opinions. /rant

Most people sleep what 6-8 hours to get a good night's sleep, that's between 25%-33% of the entire day spent in bed. That's a lot of time to let go to waste. Most people who seem to understand that that just turns out to be wasted time only end up depriving themselves of sleep and then causing other problems. Why not instead make the most of your time spent sleeping? Besides dreams, at least in my opinion, are one of the most interesting things to even happen in the course of a 24 hour day that you can depend on happening on a regular basis. That's at least my way of seeing it, of course, I would guess that's probably the general consensus around here anyway.

Why use drugs when you can lucid dream?
I seriously think that drug-addicts could benefit from LDing. Like as a way to safely withdrawl while still being able to experience the mind blowing effects of the human brain WITHOUT drugs...

There's a huge problem, one that misses even many lucid dreamer's view in my opinion:

People when are introduced to it still view it as a dream: something they are used only to recall. Now, recalling something never gives you the vivid sensation of living it, it's a shadow, a mere memory, a sample of life. That's why people need their first lucid to get hooked in my view, and this particular point is of major importance if you want to bring someone to it. Unless you show them (somehow, many think the only option is "words can't describe it, you have to experience it" that it's as real as life, they won't understand.

Whilst I'm not addicted, most people I talk to about it bring up OBE's . It seems the younger you are, the more lucids you get. At least where I'm from. I did try telling some about learning to master LDing but they said they don't have the time for it :/

Lots of people are afraid and not open to trying new things. For most, it also takes a lot of work and patience to achieve, which a lot of people are unwilling to do.

      I know the feeling.

Whenever i tried to tell my dad about lucid dreaming and dreaming in general he would say: "I don't want to hear about it".
And when he's with his friends he tells them that he is concerned for my sanity and that i believe anything i read on the internet -.- ............ Sigh ..............
Normally i wouldn't mind the alienation from people i expect not to believe it, but when i tell my own father something amazing and he thinks i am crazy, it kinda hurts.
ESPECIALLY when it is one of the most amazing things our own brain has to offer.

That's another thing that annoys me. People just disregard scientific evidence that proves that lucid dreaming is real and classify it as a myth because they cannot grasp the concept of how amazing the human brain is.

One explanation is that most people do not dream about anything even in real life. People are mostly interested in material things and think that dreaming about something is wasting time. At the other extreme are the escapists, those seeking alcohol or drugs as a mean of experiencing something different from real life but as lucid dreaming requires discipline then there is not much that they can achieved.

last night I complained to my mom about how she kept opening the door to my room, and then she said "maybe you were lucid dreaming, and got up to let the spirits out"
      **facepalm**

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I wasn't talking about LD count, I was talking about the amount of people who lucid dream...
